Hudson River Trading (HRT) is seeking an Indirect Tax Specialist to join our growing Tax team. In this role, you will help ensure HRT's global VAT/GST tax compliance, provide tax support for international imports, US state and local sales & use tax compliance, and collaborate with various internal teams to improve indirect tax reporting and indirect tax efficiencies.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all indirect tax compliance matters for all HRT entities
- Prepare VAT/GST return workpapers for all global affiliates across multiple jurisdictions
- Manage US sales and use tax compliance
- Work with external advisors on the review and filing of all indirect tax returns
- Provide support for indirect tax inquiries from tax authorities
- Coordinate with logistics teams to manage indirect tax matters for international shipments and imports
- Work closely with internal accounting, accounts payable, and IT teams to ensure accurate reporting of indirect tax in the ERP system and help create process improvements
- Collaborate with finance, legal, and technology teams on projects to improve indirect tax efficiencies
- Research and analyze global indirect tax issues and communicate findings clearly to internal stakeholders
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting international indirect tax
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax, or related field
- 5+ years of indirect tax experience, with a strong focus on VAT/GST compliance
- Understanding of various international indirect tax regimes and experience managing compliance obligations across multiple jurisdictions
- Ability to quickly familiarise oneself with the indirect tax rules of new tax jurisdictions
- Strong Excel skills, with the ability to independently read, edit, and create tax workpapers and the ability to understand and work with relevant financial and transaction data
- Strong project management skills, with excellent organisational abilities and meticulous attention to detail
- Exceptional crossâfunctional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritise projects in a fastâpaced environment
- Strong analytical, problemâsolving, and critical thinking skills
- Impeccable ethics, integrity, and discretion when working with confidential information
- Ability to work both independently and within a team, and take initiative to identify and resolve issues
- Experience with Workday as an accounting system preferred
- International trade and customs experience preferred
- US state and local sales & use tax experience preferred
- Public accounting and/or tech industry experience preferred
The estimated base salary range for this position is 125,000 - 175,000 USD per year (or local equivalent). The base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, jobârelated knowledge, skills, and experience. This role will also be eligible for discretionary performanceâbased bonuses and a competitive benefits package.
