At Hudl, we build great teams. We hire the best of the best to ensure you’re working with people you can constantly learn from. You’re trusted to get your work done your way while testing the limits of what’s possible and what’s next. We work hard to provide a culture where everyone feels supported, and our employees feel it—their votes helped us become one of Newsweek's Top 100 Global Most Loved Workplaces. We think of ourselves as the team behind the team, supporting the lifelong impact sports can have: the lessons in teamwork and dedication; the influence of inspiring coaches; and the opportunities to reach new heights. That’s why we help teams from all over the world see their game differently. Our products make it easier for coaches and athletes at any level to capture video, analyze data, share highlights and more.
We’re hiring a Software Engineer to join our Core Data team in London. This team builds the systems that power how Hudl understands sport at scale. From identifying players and teams across thousands of leagues to processing the moments that become highlights, stats and analysis, our services sit at the centre of Hudl’s platform. You’ll work on the Global Sports Library (GSL), the backbone that connects identities, metadata and game context across Hudl products. That means designing APIs, distributed services and large‑scale data pipelines that help ensure every product at Hudl is operating from the same understanding of the game. The work is backend‑heavy and deeply technical: data modeling, entity resolution, ingestion pipelines, consistency challenges, scalability and platform design. The systems you build won’t just support one product or one sport, they’ll become shared capabilities used across the company.
For this role, we’re currently considering candidates who live within a commuting distance of our office in London.
As a Software Engineer, you’ll:
- Collaborate across disciplines. You’ll work closely with a cross‑functional team of engineers, quality analysts, product managers and designers to build foundational data tools for the best of the best in sports.
- Deliver backend‑heavy features. Your team has the autonomy to build and maintain the GSL, ensuring market teams have access to reliable, comprehensive data infrastructure. We iterate rapidly and deploy changes to our products hundreds of times a day.
- Propose new solutions. You’ll have the opportunity to solve complex technical challenges within the Core Data domain and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
- Thrive on the front lines. You’ll build pipelines and libraries that power every feature delivered to coaches and athletes, getting firsthand experience with how our data impacts the game.
Must‑Haves
- Strong technical proficiency. You have at least three years of experience in engineering, specifically within backend‑heavy or data‑heavy environments.
- Cloud experience. You’ve spent time working with cloud‑based systems and services and are a strong advocate for TDD and CI/CD.
- Experience navigating uncertainty. You’re comfortable taking on ambiguous work with many possible implementation options and identifying the one that pragmatically balances quality and immediate customer value.
- A collaborative, team‑first mindset. You understand that building great software is a team effort and you’re always willing to pitch in or provide quality feedback in code reviews.
- Curiosity. You enjoy picking up new technologies and domains on the job. The idea of working across foundational layers of our stack and multiple products energizes you.
Nice‑to‑Haves
- Tech stack knowledge. Professional background in C#, GraphQL, Elastic, MongoDB and AWS is ideal.
- Data infrastructure background. Experience working in environments with significant data scale and complex infrastructure needs.
- Familiarity with hybrid teams. You’ve worked with hybrid or remote teams before and can adapt quickly to our international working environment.
Our Role
- Champion work‑life harmony. We’ll give you the flexibility you need in your work life (e.g., flexible vacation time above any required statutory leave, company‑wide holidays and timeout (meeting‑free) days, remote work options and more) so you can enjoy your personal life too.
- Guarantee autonomy. We have an open, honest culture and we trust our people from day one. Your team will support you, but you’ll own your work and have the agency to try new ideas.
- Encourage career growth. We’re lifelong learners who encourage professional development. We’ll give you tons of resources and opportunities to keep growing.
- Provide an environment to help you succeed. We've invested in our offices, designing incredible spaces with our employees in mind. But whether you’re at the office or working remotely, we’ll provide you the tech you need to do your best work.
- Support your wellbeing. Depending on location, we offer medical and retirement benefits for employees—but no matter where you’re located, we have resources like our Employee Assistance Program and employee resource groups to support your mental health.
Compensation
The base salary range for this role is displayed below—starting salaries will typically fall near the middle of this range. We make compensation decisions based on an individual’s experience, skills and education in line with our internal pay equity practices.
Inclusion at Hudl
Hudl is an equal opportunity employer. Through our actions, behaviors and attitude, we’ll create an environment where everyone, no matter their differences, feels like they belong. We offer resources to ensure our employees feel safe bringing their authentic selves to work, including employee resource groups and communities. But we recognize there’s ongoing work to be done, which is why we track our efforts and commitments in annual inclusion reports. We also know imposter syndrome is real and the confidence gap can get in the way of meeting spectacular candidates. Please don’t hesitate to apply—we’d love to hear from you.
