AAC is entering a period of significant growth, and were looking for an experienced operational leader to help shape the organisation, with real ownership from day one.

As COO, youll

  • Help our CEO make decisions on structure, hiring, budget and priorities, flag operational and financial constraints early, and decide how resources are split across teams.
  • Standardise AACs tools and systems so leadership can see progress and resource use without asking around.
  • Set goals and planning cycles with leadership, track where staff time goes, make sure new work replaces existing work rather than piling on, and plan cover for leave and absence.
  • Line manage our four directors, several new to the level.

Spot problems early, settle disagreements between teams without escalating to the CEO, and build their skills so they rely on you less over time.

  • Set how we hire, pay, review and develop staff, coach directors through difficult performance issues, and run regular internal updates for our remote team.
  • Decide which risks need action and bring proposals to the CEO and board, keep AAC legally compliant in every country it operates in, and manage its employment and entity structure.

What were looking for

  • Youve built simple, proportionate systems that keep an organisation organised, tracked where time goes, and used that to stop, delay or reassign work when new priorities come in.
  • A track record of getting teams to work differently through technology, AI or automation, with practical judgement about where it genuinely removes work.
  • Youve managed delivery across teams outside your own expertise, caught problems before they were reported, and settled disagreements between teams yourself.
  • Youve helped managers step up into new roles, set management standards across an organisation, and dealt with performance issues early and confidentially.
  • You can read budgets and funding restrictions, use them to allocate resources, and identify legal and compliance risks across countries.
  • You can present complex information to a CEO or board as clear options with their trade-offs.
  • You care about AACs mission, and can change course when the data shows something isnt working.

Youll be joining a small, committed, fully remote team working to get talented people into the roles where they can do the most for animals.

Our CEO is looking for an operational partner, not an administrator.
