If you like the idea of turning a cold conversation into something valuable, and a hello into a genuine business opportunity, you’ll understand what this role is about.
As a Business Development Representative at Glenigan, you’ll create new business opportunities by connecting organisations across construction with market intelligence that can help them identify projects and make better commercial decisions. This is a high-volume cold outbound sales role. You’ll research prospects, pick up the phone, start conversations and create qualified meetings for our Business Development team. You don’t need years of BDR or SaaS experience. What matters more is whether you can communicate confidently, stay resilient when people say no and keep learning from every conversation.
What you’ll be doing
- Your job is to turn targeted prospecting into worthwhile sales conversations.
- Contact prospective customers by phone, email, LinkedIn and other digital channels.
- Research organisations and relevant contacts before you approach them.
- Use LinkedIn Sales Navigator to identify and prioritise opportunities.
- Ask useful questions to understand whether there is a genuine reason for a prospect to speak with Glenigan.
- Secure qualified meetings for our Business Development Managers.
- Hand opportunities over clearly and share useful prospect insight with Sales and Marketing.
- Manage your activity, follow-up and pipeline information accurately in HubSpot.
- Review what works, adapt your approach and keep improving.
You’ll work towards agreed activity and meeting targets. Qualified meetings are measured when prospective clients actually attend, so quality and follow-through matter as much as securing the initial appointment. You’ll be expected to build towards full performance within your first three months.
What we’re looking for
- Previous experience in outbound sales, business development, customer engagement or another target-driven environment would be useful, but it isn’t essential.
- Confidence starting conversations with people you haven’t spoken to before.
- Clear verbal and written communication.
- Resilience and persistence.
- Commercial curiosity and the ability to ask useful questions.
- Strong follow-up and personal organisation.
- Confidence working towards measurable targets.
- Attention to detail when using CRM tools.
- Willingness to take feedback, learn and improve.
Experience in construction, architecture, manufacturing or a related sector would also be useful, but it isn’t required.
What you’ll gain
You’ll work with experienced sales managers who know the market, understand the product and know what strong pipeline management looks like. They’ll give you practical support, feedback and commercial context as you build your capability and performance. You’ll also work closely with Business Development colleagues, learning how prospects are researched, qualified and developed into genuine new-business opportunities.
Glenigan provides construction market intelligence that helps businesses understand what is happening across the market, identify projects and find commercial opportunities. That gives your conversations a clear purpose. You’ll be speaking with organisations across construction about information that can help them understand their market, identify potential work and make better decisions.
Your reward
Commission is earned against monthly targets for qualified meetings attended by prospective clients. Commission is uncapped, so if you outperform target, your earnings can exceed the stated OTE. In return, we’ll expect consistency, ownership and professionalism. Outbound sales requires persistence, and you’ll need to maintain your standards when conversations don’t go your way.
