This role would suit someone who has considerable design experience. In this role you will be leading the design and development of the next generation of optical switch products as well as troubleshooting and solving issues for internal departments and external suppliers.
Responsibilities:
- Research, conceptual design, prototyping, leading design projects and mentoring, coaching junior team members
- Design & development of core technology for next generation optical switches
- Design & development of precision tooling solutions for high volume
- Analysis and validation of precision micro-mechanical designs
- Manufacturing and performance improvements to existing product
- Collaboration with internal departments, production, NPI, quality, sales and purchasing
- Presenting technical solutions to multi-disciplinary audience
- Coordinating and reporting technical research activities
- Taking an active role in the identification and definition of project requirements, problems and opportunities
- Managing programme or schedule, budget and resource elements of engineering tasks or projects
- Bring about continuous quality improvement and promote best practice
- Ad hoc duties as required
Your profile:
- Degree BSc / BEng qualification or similar in Mechanical Engineering or relevant experience
- 6+ years experience working in a similar environment is desirable
- CAD modelling through to detail drawing generation using SolidWorks
- Proficiency in dimensioning complex parts with GD&T
- Expert in jigs and fixtures design for both manual and semi-automated processes
- Experience in using PDM systems (CIMdb desirable but not essential)
- Experience in FEA, force, stress, displacement
- Familiar with high reliability micro-fabrication techniques
- Proficient in precision opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical design
- Hands-on, practical experience
- Excellent communication skills, at all levels, in English (both verbal and written)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Great attention to details
