The Role: As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for the commissioning and switching of retrofitted actuators and Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) in secondary 11 kV substations across the SPN region. All equipment is pre-installed up to the commissioning stage, and your expertise will ensure its safe and efficient integration into our network. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge substation automation projects with a market leader.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission and switch retrofitted actuators and RTUs in secondary 11 kV substations.
- Perform testing, fault diagnosis, and verification to ensure compliance with UKPN standards and safety regulations.
- Manage permits and substation automation processes to ensure seamless operations.
- Document commissioning activities and provide detailed reports for project records.
- Collaborate with project teams and contractors to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Adhere to UKPN’s safety, quality, and environmental standards, including Electricity at Work Regulations.
Required Qualifications
- UKPN-approved Authorised Person (AP) or Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status, or equivalent authorisation from another DNO with relevant competencies.
- Proven experience in commissioning and switching at 11 kV, ideally with actuators and RTUs.
- Strong understanding of HV/LV systems, protection, and control equipment.
- Familiarity with substation automation and relevant safety standards (e.g., BS7671, IEC61850).
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
