Overview
We’re looking for a talented Middleweight WordPress Developer with strong PHP and MySQL skills to join our development team. You’ll be working on custom WordPress themes, plugins, and integrations with a particular focus on WooCommerce-powered eCommerce platforms.
This is a hands-on development role for someone who understands the WordPress ecosystem deeply and can confidently handle complex custom builds, plugin development, performance optimisation, and database-driven functionality.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain custom WordPress themes and plugins.
- Develop and extend WooCommerce functionality using actions, filters, and custom logic.
- Write clean, maintainable PHP and optimise MySQL queries for performance.
- Debug and resolve complex bugs across front-end and back-end.
- Collaborate with designers, project managers, and other developers on project requirements.
- Stay up to date with best practices and new capabilities in WordPress and WooCommerce.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional WordPress development experience.
- Advanced PHP knowledge with experience writing object-oriented code.
- Strong MySQL skills, including schema design and query optimisation.
- Deep understanding of the WordPress codex, template hierarchy, WP Query, and hook system.
- Proven experience working with and extending WooCommerce.
- Familiarity with REST APIs (WordPress and third-party).
- Comfortable with server-side and CLI tools, SSH.
- Ability to write secure, performant, scalable code.
Must Have
- Extensive experience with ACF, WooCommerce and membership plugins where possible.
- An understanding of and Server Administration
- Client facing communication skills
- An understanding of project scoping, helpdesk and support procedures
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of caching strategies and performance optimisation.
- Understanding of accessibility (WCAG) and SEO principles.
- Familiarity with headless WordPress or modern JS frameworks (e.g. React, Vue).
- Experience working in an agency or multi-project environment.
- AWS / WP Engine administration experience.
