Job Summary

The aim is to deliver solutions for our customers in a timely and maintainable form. That requires team members to be flexible in addressing critical problems, stretching from early stage research, architecture definition, standards engagement via PoC activities, to upstream kernel and related code. Understanding how to get things done in the upstream kernel is key to this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit additional senior members for the team in the UK, with extensive existing experience of working in a relevant area and a desire to work closely with the open source community (existing experience is obviously great!).
  • Work closely with the open source community, contribute to upstream kernel development and related projects.
  • Engage in standards work and PoC activities to define architecture for next‑generation kernel features.
  • Collaborate with small focused teams across multiple sites and cultures.

Required

  • Highly self‑motivated and able to work autonomously.
  • Expertise in core architecture and support for upcoming features, either ARM64 or other architectures (x86, MIPS, PPC, etc).
  • Able to work efficiently in a multi‑cultural, multi‑site, multi‑language and rapidly changing environment, possibly managing small focused teams.
  • Enthusiastic about working within the open source community and able to shine within that environment.
  • Able to grasp end‑to‑end platform design and understand the relevance to low level components.
  • An excellent communicator.
  • Interested in getting their hands dirty when needed; both reviewing and writing of code are central parts of the role.
  • Expertise in the Linux Kernel and/or QEMU.

Desired

  • Expertise in one or more major Linux kernel subsystems, e.g., Memory Management, Scheduling, KVM.
  • Experience of other key aspects of the low‑level stack, e.g., QEMU.
  • Kernel spanning topics such as virtualization, OS hardening, system performance.
  • Open source engagement / standard organization experience.
  • BS/MS/BE in Computer Science or a similar subject with 6+ years of appropriate experience.
  • Interested in driving external collaborations with industry partners and academia.
  • Experience as an open source maintainer or reviewer highly desirable.
  • Experience of taking ownership of a problem driving through to completion.
