A great opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Food & Beverage Team Member at The Fig Tree Hotel in Shanklin, a modern, peaceful boutique retreat for people who love calm, comfort and genuine hospitality.

The hotel is located minutes from Shanklin beach and the Old Village.

This is an ideal position for someone leaving School or College.

As an apprentice Food & Beverage Team Member, you will take on a full‑time role serving food and beverages and assisting the manager with front of house.

You will be training for the Level 2 Food & Beverage Team Member qualification with HTP Apprenticeship College.

You will become part of a friendly team dedicated to ensuring every guest enjoys an exceptional stay.

During your apprenticeship you will learn reception, housekeeping, food and beverage service, customer care and general hotel operations, developing the skills and confidence to build a successful career in hospitality.

No previous experience is necessary — we’re looking for someone with a positive attitude, enthusiasm to learn and pride in their work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reception & Guest Services
  • Welcome guests with a warm, friendly and professional manner.
  • Check guests in and out efficiently.
  • Answer telephone calls, emails and guest enquiries.
  • Take reservations and record any special requirements.
  • Process guest payments and maintain accurate billing records.
  • Provide local information and recommendations to guests.
  • Ensure the reception area remains tidy, welcoming and well presented.
  • Housekeeping
  • Clean guest bedrooms to the hotel’s high standards.
  • Change bed linen and replenish towels.
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms.
  • Replenish guest amenities and toiletries.
  • Carry out laundry duties when required.
  • Clean corridors, stairways and public areas.
  • Prepare conference and function rooms.
  • Report maintenance issues or damaged equipment promptly.
  • Food & Beverage
  • Prepare and serve drinks and light refreshments.
  • Deliver food and beverages promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain excellent product knowledge.
  • Restock bar and service areas.
  • Clear and clean tables and bar areas.
  • Follow food hygiene and licensing regulations at all times.
  • General Hotel Duties
  • Deliver outstanding customer service throughout the guest journey.
  • Help create a welcoming atmosphere where guests arrive as guests and leave as friends.
  • Work closely with colleagues across all departments.
  • Support hotel events and functions when required.
  • Follow all health & safety procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation and professionalism.
