We deliver services across a growing number of NHS contracts, including North East Lincolnshire, Mid and South Essex, Dorset, Cornwall & Isles of Scilly, Norfolk & Waveney, and Suffolk and North East Essex. What Can You Expect? We are seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to lead our national Control and Planning function, driving operational excellence, service resilience and continuous improvement while ensuring the safe and effective delivery of patient transport services across the UK. This is a full time, permanent role working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The successful candidate will provide executive oversight of real-time operational control, tactical planning, resource optimisation and escalation management, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, contractual compliance, workforce wellbeing and financial sustainability are consistently maintained. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the postholder will also participate in the Gold On Call rota, acting as the organisation's strategic lead during major incidents, periods of significant operational pressure and service disruption, providing decisive leadership to protect service continuity and organisational resilience.
Summary Of Main Duties Include:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Control and Planning function, ensuring safe, effective and efficient service delivery across all contracts and regions.
- Lead operational command, control and coordination, ensuring decisions are data-driven, clinically appropriate and compliant with CQC and organisational standards.
- Drive performance against contractual KPIs, response times and quality standards through effective resource planning, forecasting and workforce deployment.
- Identify and manage operational risks, implementing escalation, contingency and business continuity arrangements to maintain service resilience.
- Act as Gold On-Call lead during major incidents and periods of significant operational pressure, providing strategic direction and decision-making.
- Lead, support and develop Control and Planning teams through effective performance management, accountability and professional development.
- Ensure consistent implementation of policies, procedures and governance frameworks across the function.
- Collaborate with operational, clinical and corporate stakeholders to support service improvement, innovation and organisational objectives.
- Maintain financial oversight within the department, promoting productivity, efficiency and cost-effective service delivery.
- Foster a culture of patient safety, service excellence, accountability and continuous improvement.

We are Looking for Someone Who has:
- Significant senior management experience within operational control, planning or time critical service environments.
- Strong understanding of non-emergency patient transport services (NEPTS) or comparable regulated healthcare or logistics services.
- Proven ability to lead large, multi-disciplinary operational teams across complex services.
- Demonstrable experience of performance management, workforce planning and operational transformation.
- Highly developed analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear operational decisions.
- Experience of major incident management, escalation and resilience planning.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
