What Can You Expect?

The Ambulance Care Assistant role is a vital and rewarding employment opportunity, helping those living with illness and injury in Devon to attend treatment centres and hospital appointments safely and in a timely manner.

The role offers 10.5-hour shifts, with flexible weekend working opportunities. Applicants may choose to work either one weekend day (10.5 hours) or both Saturday and Sunday (21 hours), subject to service requirements.

Summary Of Main Duties Include

  • Patient Transport & Care- Safely drive patients to and from healthcare appointments while providing reassurance, support, and compassionate care throughout their journey.
  • Assisting with Mobility- Helping patients with mobility needs, including safe lifting, use of specialist equipment, and transferring patients to and from vehicles or their homes.
  • Communication & Compassion- Communicating clearly and kindly with patients, families, and healthcare staff, maintaining dignity, respect, and patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Vehicle Checks & Basic Administration- Carrying out daily vehicle checks, keeping all equipment clean and ready in line with Infection Prevention and Control procedures, and ensuring that any incidents and/or journey details are accurately recorded as required.
