Head chef required for a care home in the Canterbury area of Kent. This establishment is all about creating delicious, nourishing food that truly makes people’s day; they want the residents of the care home to look forward to meal times. This company is looking for a head chef to run the kitchen and ensure the standards are great and the residents are happy with the great meals. One of the units they have is the dementia unit, and having great meals helps the residents to really connect back to happy memories.
The role involves running the kitchen, ensuring everything runs smoothly and the food is ready on time. Allergens are very important in a place like this, especially with the dementia unit, so you will need to be very attentive to allergens in case a resident forgets about an allergen they have. You will create menus, organise themed days, manage the team, ensure the food standards of the kitchen are high, and that food allergens are followed. This role includes all the standard head chef duties.
Experience required includes working with fresh food, good timekeeping skills, being organised, and having a good understanding of allergens and different diets, including soft diets. You will also need to have compassion for people with dementia, wanting to help them connect with food and create enjoyable days. Being a care home, you must be able to pass a DBS (security check) and have food hygiene certification.
