Job Title:CNC Miller / CAD-CAM Programmer
Reports to: Operations Manager
Department: WEC Machining
Hours of work: Monday to Thursday 7am - 4pm and Friday 7am - 12noon
Salary: Β£20.60 per hour plus Β£25 per week attendance allowance
WEC Group Ltd, established for over 45 years and now one of the North West's leading & multi award winning engineering, fabrication and machining companies, requires an experienced and gifted CNC Miller / CAD-CAM Programmer for their purpose built facility at the Blackburn site.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and capable CNC Programmer/Operator, who wishes to progress within a dynamic and rapidly expanding engineering firm.
Responsibilities
Machine Setting & Operation
- Set up CNC milling machines, including tooling, fixtures, offsets, and work holding.
- Create offline programs using Cam software or program at the machine (Fanuc/Heidenhain or other).
- Operate 3-, 4-, or 5-axis CNC mills.
- Monitor running batches for consistency and quality.
- Edit or modify CNC programs at the machine.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and job documentation.
- Optimise machining processes for efficiency, tool life, and quality.
Quality & Inspection
- Use precision measurement tools (micrometers, verniers, height gauges.
- Record inspection data and complete quality documentation as required.
- Ensure components meet tolerance, surface finish, and geometric accuracy requirements.
Maintenance & Safety
- Carry out basic machine maintenance, cleaning, and preventive tasks.
- Ensure setups comply with safe working practices and risk assessments.
- Report machine faults, tool breakages, or production issues promptly.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience
Essential
- Proven experience as a CNC Miller Setter/Operator.
- Ability to set machines from scratch, including tooling and fixture setup.
- Strong understanding of CNC controls (e.g., Fanuc, Heidenhain).
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and geometric tolerancing (GD&T).
- Competence with measuring equipment and inspection techniques.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to program offline using CAM software.
- Experience with multi-axis milling (4-axis or 5-axis).
- Apprenticeship or engineering qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC/HND).
