Overview HSS: The Hire Service Company - we’ve been a trusted name in tool and equipment hire since 1957, instantly recognisable across the UK and Ireland for our iconic ‘blue and yellow’ vans, kit and branches. Working hours: Monday - Friday 7:30am to 5pm and every Saturday 8am to 12pm (Lieu day every other week during the week).

As a Sales Manager, you’ll build strong, lasting relationships with customers by delivering personalised, high-quality service. Based within our Partner’s merchant branch, you’ll make the most of every opportunity with walk-in customers while developing trusted connections with local tradespeople and businesses looking for reliable hire solutions. You’ll take full ownership of branch performance, ensuring operations run smoothly, safely, and profitably while providing an exceptional customer experience every time.

What Does the Sales Manager Role Involve?

  • Take full ownership of the HSS concession within our Partner’s builder’s merchant, providing expert advice and support to customers on their hire needs while identifying opportunities to upsell and cross-sell additional products and services.
  • Build and maintain strong, lasting relationships with customers and local tradespeople, ensuring repeat business and long term loyalty.
  • Consistently achieve and exceed sales targets, always delivering with a customer first mindset.
  • Manage all aspects of branch operations, including stock control, safety checks, and ensuring hire equipment is well presented and ready for use.
  • Process customer hires and returns accurately and efficiently, ensuring a smooth and professional service from start to finish.
  • Take responsibility for the overall appearance and performance of the concession, maintaining high operational and visual standards.
  • Collaborate with the merchant’s staff to maximise joint sales opportunities and build a strong local presence for the HSS brand.
  • Monitor branch performance, analyse trends, and take proactive steps to drive growth and improve service delivery.

What Does It Take to Succeed as a Sales Manager?

  • Experience within the construction, hire, or trade industry, or a background in a managerial or supervisory role in a similar hands-on environment.
  • A genuine focus on customers, with the ability to build strong relationships, understand customer’s needs, and deliver reliable solutions every time.
