SUMMARY: To support and drive the growth of our valve automation business supporting sales external and internal in winning new business. Drive the project execution of valve automation orders from technical, design and commercial compliance. Manage and support development of our Valve Automation Centres from design reviews, supply chain selection and driving best in class systems and processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sales Support
- Providing guidance and training of internal staff on the quotation of actuated enquiries, covering vendor selection, sizing and selection, technical advice and support as required.
- Acting as SME (Subject Matter Expert) for all major automation opportunities providing technical guidance and support in terms of identifying better sourcing options.
- Provide support and bid leadership on non-standard complex application.
- Create awareness on “Best Practices” for actuator & control selection.
- Driving the aspect of cost reduction at each stage of a project to improve the bottom line in terms of margins.
- Develop and ownership of sales price books for standard products to drive responsiveness.
- Work with the external and internal sales teams in support of direct selling “actuated valve sales”.
- Help support the development of AI based solutions to support our sales execution including, sizing, building torque & actuator databases.
- Selection and design of optimal valve automation systems aligned with project and operational requirements.
- Optimization of automation solutions while ensuring full compliance with customer specifications and applicable standards.
- Logging and compiling quotation into company commercial and stock system.
- Review of Client specifications, datasheets & other technical requirements as per RFQ.
- Review of Sub Vendor Technical Offers v Client Specifications Compliance.
- Review and Closing out of TQ with Sub Vendors and Clients as required.
- Work on enquiries as allocated.
- Smart Sourcing & Agile Engineering
- Procurement:
- Review local purchases against bid-stage cost allocations to ensure financial alignment.
- Drive process and work with the operations teams to consolidate procurement for improved pricing leverage.
- Implement proactive planning for controls, accessories, and production inputs to minimize last-minute disruptions.
- Development of Suppliers using historical spend data to negotiate better terms across the HSP Group.
- Review Stock Requirements needed to support VAC operations.
- Maintaining and develop supplier relationships across all components sourced for our automation package.
- Identify and expand our sub-supplier base with good quality, cost –effective suppliers.
- Proactively coordinate with the finance team to ensure timely payments to key suppliers, fostering trust and long-term partnerships.
- Design:
- Engage with design teams on complex projects to share best practices.
- Controls system design and component selection.
- Identify and eliminate over-engineering to introduce cost-effective alternatives.
- Apply reverse engineering techniques to accelerate control panel delivery for fast-track projects.
- Have design work with project budgets in mind to prevent any margin erosion.
- Project Management & Operations
- Contract Review for Actuated Orders.
- Design Reviews, Vendor and Material Selection.
- Support Documentation Review and Approval, GA Drawings, Schematics.
- Monitor and Support VAC Build Activities.
- Driving the aspect of cost reduction at each stage of a project to improve the bottom line in terms of margins.
- Provide expert technical and commercial guidance to the Post Order teams.
- Collaborate with the operations team to drive cost-conscious decision-making across logistics, location of build to improve execution.

Our Valve Automation Sales Engineer should have:
- Knowledge of Valve Types – Gate, Globe, Check, Butterfly, Ball, Plug etc.
- Knowledge and experience of Actuation, Instrumentation and Controls, Electric, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Actuators.
- Ability to size Actuators (Pneumatic, Electric & Hydraulic).
- Control Systems and Design.
- Industry Standards for design, testing etc.
- Be able to review client specs and datasheets.
- Experienced in sourcing valves, actuation and control elements.
- Ability to read 3D & 2D drawings and CAD.
- An understanding of INCO Terms.
- A basic understanding of Commercial Terms and Conditions.
- Negotiation Skills.
