The HSEQ Director for Water Hygiene Division is responsible for establishing and leading the division's Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality strategy, governance framework and culture. The role holds ultimate accountability for ensuring the business operates safely, responsibly and in compliance with all relevant legislative, regulatory, contractual and certification requirements. The postholder will provide strategic leadership and direction across all HSEQ disciplines and ensure that risk management, assurance and continual improvement are embedded throughout the organisation. As a member of the Water Hygiene Senior Leadership Team, the HSEQ Director will influence organisational strategy, support business growth, protect the Company's people and reputation and ensure HSEQ considerations form an integral part of operational and commercial decision‐making.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership – Develop and implement the Water Hygiene Division HSEQ strategy and long‐term roadmap; work with the Group HSEQ Director and other Divisional HSEQ Directors to contribute to the creation and delivery of Group HSEQ objectives; establish HSEQ objectives aligned with Group objectives and the Company's strategic plan; ensure HSEQ considerations are fully integrated into business planning, growth initiatives and operational decision‐making; act as the lead sponsor for HSEQ transformation and improvement initiatives.
  • Governance & Risk Management – Align to, and deliver for, the Group HSEQ governance framework; establish and maintain an effective governance framework for the division; ensure robust arrangements for identifying, assessing and managing business risks; oversee corporate risk registers and significant risk management programmes; report, escape and manage significant HSEQ issues; maintain oversight of business continuity and crisis management arrangements.
  • Health & Safety Leadership – Hold overall accountability for health and safety performance; lead development and implementation of policies, standards and procedures; provide strategic direction on incident prevention, risk reduction and behavioural safety initiatives; manage significant incidents and investigations; represent the business with regulators, enforcement authorities and external agencies; ensure appropriate occupational health and wellbeing arrangements.
  • Quality, Assurance & Management Systems – Hold accountability for the effectiveness of the Company's Integrated Management System; provide strategic direction for quality, assurance and governance activities; ensure effective internal assurance, audit and compliance monitoring; receive independent assurance from the Head of Quality & Assurance; sponsor continual improvement initiatives and organisational learning programmes.
  • Environmental Leadership – Support development and implementation of the Group's environmental strategy; lead environmental initiatives for the division; ensure compliance with environmental legislation; promote responsible environmental practices.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Affairs – Maintain compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory obligations; oversee changes in legislation, standards and best practice; implement and maintain compliance arrangements; lead regulatory inspections and enforcement activity; implement lessons learned.
  • Leadership & People Development – Lead, develop and inspire the division's HSEQ function; build a high‐performing team and develop succession plans; coach and mentor leaders and managers; develop HSEQ capability and competence; promote accountability and ownership of HSEQ responsibilities.
  • Business & Commercial Leadership – Support acquisitions, integrations and organisational change initiatives; conduct HSEQ due diligence; ensure HSEQ risks are considered in commercial decisions; contribute to tender submissions and strategic customer relationships; protect and enhance the Company's reputation.
  • Stakeholder Management – Serve as senior representative on all HSEQ matters; build relationships with regulators, certification bodies, clients and industry bodies; provide strategic advice to Executive Leadership Team and Board; present HSEQ performance, risks and assurance findings to senior stakeholders; work with HR to support performance standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Significant senior leadership experience within Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality functions.
  • Experience leading HSEQ strategy within a complex, multi‐site organisation.
  • Proven experience developing governance frameworks and managing organisational risk.
  • Experience advising executive teams and influencing strategic decisions.
  • Experience managing significant incidents and regulatory interactions.
  • Experience leading and developing multi‐disciplinary teams.
  • Experience presenting at Executive and Board level.
  • Experience leading organisational change and continual improvement initiatives.
  • Degree‐level qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Risk Management, Business Management or related discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 qualification.
  • Level 6 qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.
  • Professional membership of a recognised health and safety body, with the ability to demonstrate senior professional competence.
  • Desirable
  • NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Practice or similar.
  • Degree or Master's qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management or Business Leadership.
  • CMIOSH or equivalent professional standing.
  • Lead Auditor qualifications in ISO9001, ISO14001 and/or ISO45001.
  • Chartered status within a recognised quality, environmental or risk discipline.
  • Executive leadership qualification, MBA or equivalent senior management qualification.
