  • INTERNAL OPPORTUNITY
  • Divisional Finance Director – Water Treatment

We are excited to share an internal opportunity for a high-calibre Divisional Finance Director to join our Water Treatment Division at an important stage in its growth journey.

This is a key leadership role within the division, offering the opportunity to work closely with the CFO, Divisional Managing Director and wider leadership team to shape strategy, improve performance and support the continued growth of the business.

About the Role

The Divisional Finance Director will have responsibility for all aspects of commercial finance and financial reporting across the Water Treatment Division, working closely with the Managing Director and the leaders of our Effluent Water, Advanced Water and Environmental Water businesses.

The division is forecast to deliver annualised revenues of approximately £44m this year, with significant further growth expected over the next three years through both organic growth and targeted acquisitions.

This is a hands‑on and commercially focused role.

While the successful candidate will need to think strategically and contribute to the division’s future direction, they will also be comfortable getting into the detail — from driving a timely month‑end close and understanding budget variances, through to analysing revenue segmentation and contract‑level profitability.

The Finance Director will also work closely with the MD and wider leadership team on commercial opportunities and initiatives that will help deliver the division’s future growth ambitions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Divisional MD to develop divisional strategy, financial appraisals and business cases.
  • Provide insightful financial analysis and commercial insight to support decision‑making and improve business performance.
  • Lead timely monthly financial reporting and analysis, including understanding and challenging variances to budget.
  • Provide detailed analysis of revenue segmentation and contract‑level profitability.
  • Lead and coordinate the annual budgeting and reforecasting cycles, working closely with FP&A.
  • Lead, manage and develop the divisional finance teams.
  • Support financial and commercial due diligence for Water Treatment acquisitions.
  • Take the lead on the financial integration of acquisitions into the division.
  • Monitor and manage working capital across the division.
  • Ensure customer credit risk is managed in accordance with Group policy.
  • Review commercial contracts and associated terms.
  • Identify and drive cost‑saving and productivity opportunities.
  • Develop and implement processes to track sales pipeline, forward revenue cover and backlog.

About You

We are looking for an experienced finance professional who combines strong technical knowledge with commercial acumen, leadership capability and a genuine interest in the wider business.

You will ideally have

  • A recognised accounting qualification or equivalent, with at least five years' relevant post‑qualification experience in a senior commercial finance role.
  • Experience leading finance teams within a multi‑site operation.
  • Experience of acquisitions and business integration.
  • Exposure to private equity‑backed businesses and/or the testing, environmental or water services sectors would be advantageous.
  • What You'll Bring
  • Strong financial and technical knowledge combined with high‑level commercial awareness.
  • A strategic mindset, with the ability and willingness to get into the detail when required.
  • A proactive approach to driving change and continuous improvement.
  • The ability to build relationships, influence senior stakeholders and challenge constructively.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence presenting to senior leaders and wider groups.
  • The ability to work effectively across functions and lead projects.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast‑paced and evolving environment.
  • A commitment to our Group values and the ability to bring together and align teams across the division.
  • Location & Working Pattern

The role is hybrid, combining home working with regular travel to our operating sites along the M6/M5/M50 corridors, including:

  • Full-time
  • An Opportunity to Make an Impact

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to play a key role in the next phase of growth for Water Treatment, working alongside the divisional and Group leadership teams and making a tangible difference to financial and commercial performance.
