Within our Investigation Division (IVD) we are looking to recruit Visiting Officers. IVD regulates health and safety in a wide range of industries across the whole of Great Britain, including construction, general manufacturing, agriculture, fairgrounds, crown, fire, police, health services and domestic gas safety. IVD's Visiting Officers work alongside our Inspectors, delivering investigations into RIDDOR reported accidents and ill-health and domestic gas issues involving landlords and unregistered gas fitters. Visiting officers are also expected to carry out their own investigations with direction and support of their Principal Inspector.

Key Responsibilities for Visiting Officer role:

  • Making enquiries into reported incidents to inform the operational team leader’s investigation decision.
  • Taking voluntary witness statements and victim personal statements to support enforcement action by inspectors and specialists.
  • Securing and processing evidence and contributing to its proper management.
  • Working with HSE Inspectors and Lawyers to liaise with witnesses.
  • Develop awareness and knowledge of HSE’s work and organisational structure.
  • Acquire an understanding and knowledge of relevant operational and legal procedures and to become familiar with a range of work activities, industrial processes and the associated hazards and precautions.
  • Regulate Employers’ Liability Compulsory Insurance (ELCI) and Working Time Regulations.

Additional key responsibilities for Regulatory Compliance Officer Role:

  • Provide support to some large interventions at Control of Major Accidental Hazards (COMAH) sites.
  • Gather Intelligence including by conducting advisory visits to non-COMAH sites.
