A leading third-party logistics (3PL) company, based at one of its key sites in Thatcham, is seeking a passionate and proactive Health, Safety and Environment Manager for a large, complex, fast-paced site. This role sits within the site leadership team, where you’ll lead large-scale improvement projects, drive a more proactive and engaged culture by empowering the team, strengthen communications across departments, build confidence, ownership, and embed proactive safety behaviours.
Duties:
- Be the HSE subject matter expert on site, supporting both the General Manager and wider leadership team.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of the HSE strategy and site improvement plan.
- Be visible, approachable and offer hands-on support through site walk rounds, coaching and mentoring the wider workforce on the shop floor.
- Embed a more proactive and positive HSE culture on site, moving away from reactive and desk-based support.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and cross-functional teams to ensure that the company-wide health, safety and environmental improvements are implemented locally as well as site-specific improvements.
- Review site level reports and information to identify actionable insights, corrective actions or emerging risks.
- Mentor and coach operational managers helping them to develop their HSE leadership and management capability.
- Provide professional advice to enable the site to achieve compliance in line with relevant legislation and internal standards.
- Manage the triage of site incidents, delegate incident investigations and lead accident investigations where appropriate.
- Monitor audit outcomes and reviews, to ensure that corrective actions are raised and implemented by the site leadership team.
- Manage emergency planning and business continuity arrangements in partnership with operational teams.
- Build and maintain respectful relationships and collaborate with local trade union H&S representatives.
- Support the business to manage and defend the site's insurance claims.
- Act as the primary contact for external agencies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Personality fit: Proactive and passionate but down-to-earth person who is adaptable, self-motivated and confident. Able to engage and empower others and drive accountability/ownership. Strong communication skills are essential.
Essential qualifications and background: NEBOSH Certificate ideally from a fast-paced background within Warehouse, Logistics, Retail, Manufacturing or wider. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Able to present to the leadership team.
