HSE Recruitment Network are recruiting for an Environmental Advisor/Lead to represent a well-respected UK based defence company with a commitment to security and critical infrastructure. The role will be focused on delivering high‑level environmental expertise across regional operations by maintaining regulatory and ISO 14001 compliance, steering improvement initiatives, overseeing audits and incident investigations, and fostering a proactive, improvement‑driven culture in health, safety, and environment.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide expert environmental advice and guidance across all sites and business units within the assigned region.
- Ensure all sites meet environmental legislation, standards, and internal requirements through proactive oversight and support.
- Lead the implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 across relevant sites, including audit planning and preparation.
- Drive targeted environmental improvement projects and support wider business‑led initiatives to reduce impact and increase efficiency.
- Develop and review environmental assessments and controls, ensuring they remain current, robust, and fit for purpose.
- Monitor and interpret changes in environmental law and guidance, advising leadership on potential impacts and compliance actions.
- Investigate and close out environmental incidents, supporting root‑cause analysis and improvements in data quality and reporting.
- Conduct regular compliance reviews, inspections, and follow‑ups to verify that environmental risks are effectively managed.
Essential Experience:
- Proven experience in managing environmental compliance and regulatory requirements in a large, multi‑site organisation.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 14001, including experience supporting or leading audits and improvement actions.
- Demonstrable background in environmental risk assessment, incident management, and applying legislation to operational environments.
- Relevant professional qualification or membership in an environmental body (e.g., IEMA, CIEEM, or equivalent) with a track record of advising site leadership.
