A global food manufacturing company and iconic British food brand based in Suffolk is seeking an experienced and proven safety leader for a Senior Safety, Health and Environment Manager role. The site has a headcount of 850 people and comprises four units across 25.5 acres.

The ideal candidate will be people-centric, able to be both hands-on and strategic, enabling safety to go hand in hand with production while driving practical and proactive initiatives. A background in compliance, risk awareness, and continuous improvements would be advantageous.

The role involves:

  • Championing a strong SHE culture through visible leadership, engagement, and behavioural safety initiatives.
  • Leading risk assessments, hazard identification processes, and implementation of effective controls.
  • Maintaining robust systems for environmental management, waste handling, and emergency preparedness.
  • Conducting thorough root cause analysis and ensuring effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Reporting incidents to regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders as required.
  • Leading internal and external SHE audits, inspections, and regulatory visits (announced and unannounced).
  • Maintaining site readiness for regulatory and corporate audits at all times.
  • Defining SHE training needs and ensuring effective delivery across all levels of the site.
  • Promoting ongoing professional development in SHE awareness and practices.
  • Providing SHE input into capital investment and engineering projects.
  • Supporting cross-functional improvement projects ensuring SHE risks are appropriately managed.
  • Ensuring effective communication of SHE performance, risks, and initiatives across all levels.

Qualifications include a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, or a NEBOSH Certificate with significant and relevant leadership experience. Experience in high-risk, fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing organisations, ideally in food, chemical, baked goods, distilleries, brewery, beverage, packaging, agriculture, manufacturing, and machinery is preferred. Experience with CDM, ammonia, DSEAR, pressure systems, PUWER, ATEX, and strong exposure to environmental site needs would be an advantage.
