The Senior Product Owner - Decision Systems is a key GCB4 leadership role within FST Analytics & Decision Systems and responsible for leading the engagement with various stakeholders in Credit Risk, FST & Product teams to support the business needs of implementing and deploying new strategies. On an annual basis, the decision systems team implements c. 220 changes and the role is crucial to manage the decisioning infrastructure, maintain an efficient deployment plan and influencing strategy deployment based on change runway, business priorities and resourcing capacity.
The role holder will manage a team of c. 45 FTE (combining resource onshore in the UK & Global Analytics team based in India). The scope of ownership of strategy deployment covers the full customer life cycle – Customer acquisitions, Account Management, FST (Collections) & Post Charge Off Recoveries, across both Secured and Unsecured portfolios. The scope includes all 3 brands – HSBC, First Direct and M&S Bank.
The roleholder will be expected to collaborate with various teams and stakeholders including IT, Credit Risk, Product & Global teams to manage both day to day activities & issues, and also strategically manage the process to ensure that deployment is efficient while meeting high levels of quality and control specifications.
In this role you will:
- Ongoing day-to-day support on Business-as-Usual needs and facilitate effective deployment of strategies to support growth, regulatory aspects or customers in financial difficulties.
- Lead the engagement with various stakeholders in FST, Credit Risk & Products to support the business needs.
- Manage the processes, infrastructure and resources needed to deliver agreed team plans and targets, identifying and implementing improvements and collaborating with colleagues to maximise end to end integration, effectiveness and efficiency.
- Manage the decisioning & deployment process, maintaining an efficient deployment plan and influencing strategy deployment based on change runway, business priorities and resourcing capacity.
- Implement and monitor the application of policies, governance frameworks, procedures, practices and standards to ensure quality, effective risk management and regulatory compliance.
- Operate controls effectively to ensure any issues with deployment is captured prior to go-live with maker/check and adequate quality checks.
- In the rare occurrence of an incident (either due to issue with strategy coding, requirement specification, or inaccurate input data), establish effective mechanisms for decision making and escalate as appropriate while engaging the experts across IT, Credit Risk and other relevant areas to take necessary actions.
- Drive and/or contribute to projects/programmes related to Decision Systems (e.g.: related to a new product launch, new channel, etc).
- Act as a centre of expertise for implementation of Credit Decisioning and FST Data projects, including ensuring delivery to high standards, ensure world class governance, effective engagement of key senior stakeholders and promotion of collaboration and the application of best practices.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Leadership & Collaboration: Proven skills of leading a large team of senior analysts and people managers through both business-as-usual changes and complex projects. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate across various teams in IT, Credit Risk & Product. The Senior Product Owner must convey the vision clearly and align teams towards common goals.
- Technical Understanding: Proficiency in technology(ies) and capabilities used in credit decisioning such as 3rd party platforms (SAS, Experian, FICO), API’s, cloud solutions – enables effective collaboration with technical teams and contributes to more informed decision making.
- Risk Management Framework: Proven success of establishing and/or managing a robust operational and risk management infrastructure in accordance with local and regulatory framework (eg. 3LoD), together with early identification and effective escalation and resolution of issues that arise, thereby fostering trust with team and stakeholders.
- Financial Acumen: A deep understanding of credit assessment methodologies, risk management, and regulatory compliance. Senior stakeholder engagement is essential.
