The team you’ll work with:
HSBC Innovation Banking UK Credit team works very closely with our front-line Relationship teams to support the execution of new to bank clients and credit solutions, as well as the review of the existing loan portfolio. With a significant level of delegated authority focused specifically on our Strategic Funds Solutions portfolio, this is a highly commercial and unique opportunity to join a forward-looking second line risk (2LoD) Credit Risk team in the active risk management of our Fund-level or Firm-level financing needs.
This role is perfect for you if you enjoy working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and have experience of front-line deal structuring and execution, and/or portfolio management/credit risk experience in the fund finance lending space.

Reporting into our Head of Credit, you’ll effectively balance risk management and commercial growth, helping drive growth of the loan book, making sure we maintain good credit quality whilst also supporting the delivery of strategic growth project initiatives across HSBC Innovation Banking UK.
Moreover, you’ll make a genuine contribution to the innovation economy by enabling our clients to bring their innovative ideas and solutions in technology, life sciences, and healthcare needs in the UK to life via a variety of Fund Finance solutions.
What you can expect to be doing:
- Working on a high-profile and high-growth portfolio, you’ll have active engagement with the front line from day one. You can expect to be doing the following:
- Meeting with Relationship Management and Portfolio Management teams to evaluate capital call lines, NAV lines, and GP financing for Private Equity and Venture capital firms, as well as reviewing existing facilities within the portfolio, enabling loan growth, and maintaining good credit quality.
- Leading or participating in key initiatives (lending strategy, product strategy), projects (Controls, process improvements, etc.) and committees focused on achieving business unit objectives for Risk, or in partnership/support of other business units as appropriate.
- Assessing Credit quality and management of assigned loan portfolio, including having credit oversight of new loan business, credit approvals within delegated authority and sponsorship of credits for approval outside of delegated authority, credit underwriting guidance, and collaboration with Relationship Management and Portfolio Management teams.
- Review of credit approval memoranda. Assessing risk ratings to assure risk ratings are appropriate and accurate, ensuring that key risks are highlighted and rationale for approving the loan is sound.
- Conduct quarterly portfolio reviews with emphasis on risk rating, trends, and compliance with loan covenants and reporting requirements, working closely with lending to ensure that portfolio management disciplines/practices are consistently applied.
- Provide advice, mentoring, and/or training to the lending deal team, and credit support staff regarding loan structuring, loan documentation, and legal issues.
- Participate in discussions with credit review and third parties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Experienced credit/lending practitioner ideally with experience in both sales and portfolio management in a high-volume deal environment.
- Experienced and confident in working closely with the first line on lending transactions to assess and challenge creative debt solutions to client needs.
- Evidenced ability to lead due diligence, structuring, underwriting, and documentation processes independently for all types of debt transactions, specifically capital call lines of credit. Experience in related FX hedging products, net asset value facilities, and GP Financing preferred but not a core requirement.
- Experience of managing multiple stakeholders, including senior management and multiple Relationship Managers at any one time.
- Confident in ability to apply industry knowledge with technical and regulatory knowledge of the credit landscape to drive conversations and debate over lines of credit with internal stakeholders effectively and independently.
