Typically this person will be:

A hands-on, proactive leader responsible for the safe, efficient, and customer-focused management of the Boatyard's 7-day operations, including indoor/outdoor boat lift & launch and marina activities. This role requires both operational expertise and strong team leadership, with a focus on building and developing high-performing teams, maintaining machinery and equipment, and delivering excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, and manage a small operational team, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and high service standards
  • Oversee day-to-day boatyard and marina operations, including lift & launch, boat storage, and maintenance activities
  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety regulations, including LOLER and environmental legislation
  • Manage, maintain, and plan servicing of site machinery, lifting equipment, and mechanical assets
  • Develop and implement operational improvements and new Lift & Launch propositions
  • Coordinate external contractors and minor maintenance projects
  • Maintain accurate records of boat movements, equipment servicing, and operational tasks
  • Act as visible site leader, providing excellent customer service and ensuring high standards of site presentation

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Professional qualification or significant hands-on experience in mechanical or marine engineering
  • Proven operational and team management experience, ideally within marina, boatyard, or mechanical operations
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to inspire and manage teams effectively
  • Excellent knowledge of Health & Safety compliance and machinery/lifting operations
  • Practical, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills
  • Customer-focused with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
