Typically, this person will be responsible for carrying out high-quality fabrication and welding work on marine vessels and associated structures, supporting production, ship repair, refit and new-build projects at Mainstay Marine.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Fabricate and weld marine structures, components, and assemblies to technical drawings
- Carry out MIG, TIG and MMA welding on mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium where required
- Work on vessels in build, refit, and repair stages within the shipyard
- Cutting, burning, grinding, forming and fitting steel sections and plate
- Assist with pipework fabrication and installation as required
- Ensure all work is carried out to shipyard quality standards and in line with safety procedures
- Work both in the workshop and onboard vessels in dry dock/afloat
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Welder/Fabricator in a marine, shipbuilding, heavy engineering, or fabrication environment
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication plans
- Proficiency in MIG and MMA welding (TIG advantageous)
- Experience working with structural steel, plate, and marine components
- Good understanding of shipyard safety procedures and safe working practices
- NVQ/City & Guilds in Welding/Fabrication (preferred but not essential)
- Flexibility to work overtime when required
- Strong teamwork, reliability, and commitment to quality workmanship
