The below job description will outline this position of: Business Development Manager
Typically, this person will be a hunter-focused Business Development Manager, pro-actively identifying and securing new business within the marine engine servicing, spare parts sector. The objective is to grow customer base and revenue through pro-active new business development. This is not an account management role: The priority is generating new business through pro-active outreach, relationship building, and company representation.
Duties and responsibilities of the Business Development Manager:
- Pro-actively identify and pursue new business opportunities for engine services, engine sales, and spare parts
- Build relationships with new prospects
- Understand customer requirements and pass qualified opportunities to the operations team for technical quoting
- Develop contracts for recurring service and parts needs rather than one-off sales
- Maintain accurate CRM records of all customer interactions, pipeline activity, and opportunity progress
- Attend customer sites, exhibitions, and industry events to generate new business
- Collaborate with operations, technical, and marketing teams to deliver integrated solutions for clients
- Support marketing initiatives by contributing to campaign ideas, providing market intelligence, and following up on marketing-generated leads
- Provide regular sales performance reports, including pipeline status and progress against targets
- Keep abreast of market developments, competitor activity, and industry trends
- Support OEM partner relationships by identifying new business opportunities
- Create positive working relationships with key internal stakeholders
Qualifications and requirements for the Business Development Manager:
- Experience in marine, commercial shipping, power generation, or related industrial sectors
- Knowledge of marine engine services, spare parts, or technical products
- Familiarity with sectors including tugs, workboats, ferries, wind, and commercial cargo
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics or similar CRM/ERP systems
- Understanding of value-based pricing and commercial proposal development
- Experience working with OEM partnerships or distributor networks
- Passport - Mainly UK travel however, travel to northern Europe will be part of this position
- Driving Licence
