The predicted salary is between 33900 - 46100 £ per year.

Salary: Base salary: c£39,233pa to £46,157pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer a flexible benefits fund of 15% which is paid on top of the base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits.

As a Traffic Assistant at HS2, you will be responsible for supporting the Traffic Manager in fulfilling their accountabilities and liaising and co-ordinating between HS2’s contractors and the local highways authorities on traffic and transport matters to ensure that contractors provide appropriate documentation, plans, drawings, and implementation in accordance with existing legislation and the HS2 Act. Traffic Assistants are embedded within the Integrated Project Teams (IPTs).

About the role:

  • To be responsible for supporting the Traffic Manager to co-ordinate between the delivery contractors, their respective consultants, the local highway authorities, utility companies, and community engagement teams.
  • To be responsible for supporting the Traffic Manager in the programming of temporary traffic management requirements.
  • To be responsible for providing progressive assurance and reviewing the Contractors Local Traffic Management Plans to support a “right first time” submission enabling an efficient approval process.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that traffic management programmes and all temporary traffic management records for a geographic area of the project are documented and updated.
  • To be responsible for supporting the Traffic Manager in providing assurance that the project is not creating new significant adverse effects beyond those reported in the Environmental Statement and that HS2’s Traffic Management obligations are being met within the geographical area, escalating as required.
  • To be responsible for supporting the Traffic Manager to review, submit and monitor applications for highway consent for highway works to be carried out by the contractors within a defined geographic area.
  • To be responsible for supporting the Traffic Manager to review the contractors’ construction programmes and review if method constraints are required to meet the requirements of the project’s Environmental Statement.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies, and procedures on EDI.

About You:

Skills:

  • Ability to quickly and effectively report on qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Ability to use Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access) and the internet.
  • Ability to work methodically, follow processes and ensure the detailed records of programmes and contents are maintained.

Knowledge:

  • Awareness of Chapter 8 Traffic Signs Manual standards to assist the Traffic Manager in the assurance of the contractor’s temporary traffic management designer and installers/maintainers.

Types of Experience:

  • Experience of general traffic management (particularly safety schemes), temporary traffic management standards (Chapter 8), and delivery of temporary works at traffic signals.
  • Experience of compiling reports, presentations, and data models relating to traffic management.
  • Educated to degree level in transport, traffic or highway engineering or a similar numerate discipline, or equivalent training and experience.
