Location: Euston

Base salary: £66,553pa to c.£83,191pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer a flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top of the base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits.

The Senior Commercial Manager is responsible for delivering commercial activities within the Delivery teams. The role provides leadership to HS2 commercial staff engaged in the management of the major infrastructure contracts required to deliver the HS2 vision. The role works alongside the supply chain and contractors within the development and delivery teams, assuring and supporting their commercial activities to provide an independent view to the Head of Commercial.

About the Role

  • Pre-Contract: Responsible for developing commercial works information, reviewing works information from other functions and drafting contract documents to ensure consistency and alignment with procurement plans. Supporting the Procurement team in the development and delivery of tender evaluation models and contract documentation including terms and conditions and associated commercial mechanisms.
  • Procurement: Responsible for evaluating tenders and supporting moderation to achieve Contract Award. Developing a contract management plan and supporting contract readiness.
  • Post Contract: Accountable for providing commercial assurance to the Head of Commercial of all Delivery commercial activities (HS2 & Supply Chain), including delivering commercial and contract management of the contracts to maintain effective commercial control, administration of the obligations of the Project Manager under the NEC3 Contract, managing effective cost verification, reviewing and analysing supply chain monthly reports, providing final cost estimate updates, supporting monthly contract and programme performance reviews, and supporting the settlement of supply chain disputes.
  • Leadership: Leading and reviewing estimates, providing second key corporate governance approval of change and risk draw down, leading commercial resources, agreeing objectives, managing performance and development, and providing domain knowledge in the development and maintenance of efficient and effective contract and commercial management policies, processes and procedures.

About You

  • Skills: Ability to manage and administer high value and delivery critical contracts, develop commercial strategies and plans, deliver value driven management of commercial relationships, support negotiations, manage internal and external stakeholder parties, develop and improve commercial policies, and demonstrate contract, commercial and risk management skills.
  • Type of experience: Experience of managing commercial management teams in major complex infrastructure projects, working with publicly funded bodies, planning and implementing high value contracts, and using commercial management and reporting systems.
