Base salary: £46,606pa to c.£58,963pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer a flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top of the base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits.

As Landscape Design Manager you’ll bring together information on Public Realm and Landscape from a complex range of sources in order to manage and guide the design integration to deliver the Objectives of the Design Vision, Design guidance, Environmental Minimum Requirements, Strategic Goals and Objectives, Benefits and cost compliant integrated delivery of the project. The role holder will provide qualitative assurance and verification to senior management level on key design issues across a defined geographic area working closely with members of the Integrated Project Teams and the Natural and Built Environment team in their technical assurance role.
About the role:
- Review and manage the technical assurance activities related to the design development and delivery of landscape areas (including public realm) for a defined geographic area as instructed by the line manager.
- Work cross programme to integrate a holistic and context driven design that meets the aspiration of the HS2 Design Vision and HS2 Landscape Design Approach benefits and programme requirements.
- Provide technical knowledge and advice at a manager level for the discipline of Landscape Design to the HS2 LTD Business.
- Collaborate with HS2 LTD colleagues and project disciplines cross programme at manager and senior manager level and promote an integrated approach to Landscape Design.
- Develop and maintain an active and close working relationship with project service consultants and stakeholders in order to ensure that Landscape Design requirements are fully understood and delivered.
- Provide briefings and presentations as and when necessary.
- Manage and guide design activities undertaken by project service consultants and carry out a critical review of key design deliverables.
- Provide regular updates to the Senior Manager Landscape Design (line manager), and the Landscape Lead – Routewide.
- Ensure safety is a key priority in all aspects of the role.
- Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
About You:
Skills:
- Design skills relating to the development and design of soft and hard landscape areas (incl. Public Realm) as well as Landscape Masterplans.
- Design skills relating to the development of integrated places that achieve social, environmental and economic benefits.
- Ability to manage landscape design activities of medium to large scale projects.
- Ability to develop appropriate and cost balanced and high-quality design solutions working alongside design and technical specialists.
- Ability to manage multiple consultants.
- Communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work alone and to manage complex tasks.
- Ability to work as part of a diverse and highly skilled team.
Knowledge:
- Degree in Landscape Architecture or equivalent work experience.
- Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute or working towards LI’s Chartership.
- Understanding of cost delivery, schedule targets and the need to deliver an integrated, high-quality solution that meets all design and functional requirements.
Type of experience:
- Experience in managing medium to large landscape design projects at a senior management level covering stages from inception through to completion.
- Working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary management or design team and in conjunction with engineers, construction experts, architects and environmental specialists.
- Experience in site supervision of medium to large landscape construction projects.
- Experience in undertaking design reviews and critiquing to achieve high quality design proposals.
- Giving risk-based advice to stakeholders.
- Experience in developing pragmatic approaches to design challenges.
