The predicted salary is between 36000 - 42350 £ per year.

Location: Podium - Euston, London

Salary Base salary: c£36,000pa to 42,350pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer a flexible benefits fund of 15% which is paid on top of the base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits.

As an Analyst at HS2, you will provide analytical support to the development and delivery of HS2 and wider rail schemes, contributing to evidence-based decision-making across the programme. The Analyst applies established analytical approaches to assess costs, benefits, and impacts, supporting value for money assessment and business case development. You will gather, interpret, and analyse data from a range of sources to produce clear, robust insights.

Working with colleagues and stakeholders, the role supports the development of analysis that informs investment decisions and scheme design, ensuring outputs are proportionate, accurate and aligned with HS2 Ltd and Department for Transport guidance.

About the role:

  • Deliver defined analytical work packages to support appraisal and business case development, ensuring outputs meet agreed requirements, quality standards, and timelines.
  • Gather, validate, and analyse data from multiple sources to support the assessment of costs, benefits, and risks.
  • Develop and maintain analytical tools and models in line with established methodologies, ensuring outputs are transparent, well-documented and fit for purpose.
  • Support the development and improvement of analytical approaches by incorporating new data and assumptions where appropriate.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders to understand analytical requirements and ensure outputs meet decision-making needs.
  • Prepare clear and concise written outputs and presentations, translating analysis into accessible insights for non-technical audiences.
  • Identify and communicate limitations, risks, and uncertainties in analysis, contributing to quality assurance processes.
  • Work flexibly across the team, supporting a range of analytical priorities as required.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies, and procedures on EDI.

About You:

Skills:

  • Ability to analyse and interpret data to identify patterns, trends, and key insights, using appropriate tools such as Excel or other analytical software.
  • Ability to apply structured problem-solving skills to break down complex issues and support the delivery of analytical work.
  • Ability to apply and follow established analytical approaches and frameworks to support appraisal and decision-making.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present analytical findings clearly and concisely to a range of audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage time and priorities effectively, delivering work to agreed deadlines and quality standards.
  • Willingness to seek feedback and continuously improve analytical outputs and ways of working.

Knowledge:

  • An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, or a closely related discipline (e.g. Business, Science, Geography), or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of analytical approaches used to support investment decisions, including appraisal and value for money assessment.
  • Awareness of HM Treasury and Department for Transport appraisal principles and how analysis supports business case development.
  • Understanding of the role of evidence in supporting effective decision-making.

Types of Experience:

  • Experience of producing analysis using standard analytical tools (e.g. Excel or similar) and presenting findings in a clear and structured way.
  • Experience of working in a team-based or project environment, contributing to shared outputs and objectives.
  • Experience of handling data and ensuring its quality, including identifying limitations and uncertainties.
  • Experience of communicating analytical findings to support decision-making, or a demonstrable ability to do so.
