Shape the Security Systems of Britain's New High Speed Railway. An experienced Senior Security Systems Engineer will provide technical leadership and engineering assurance for physical security systems across the future railway. You will have exposure to a broad range of security technologies including Access Control Systems, CCTV, Intruder Detection Systems, IP‑based security systems and communications networks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assurance for physical security systems throughout design and delivery.
  • Review contractor designs, technical submissions and engineering deliverables.
  • Manage interfaces between security systems and wider railway infrastructure.
  • Support integration activities across stations, depots and route‑wide systems.
  • Provide technical advice on engineering risks, technical queries and change requests.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, specifications and operational requirements.
  • Support suppliers and delivery teams through design, construction and commissioning phases.
  • Coordinate with key stakeholders including Network Rail, British Transport Police and other external organisations.
  • Contribute to risk management activities and support programme decision‑making.
  • Help resolve complex technical and systems integration challenges.

Essential Experience

  • Candidates are likely to have experience delivering or assuring physical and electronic security systems within major infrastructure, transportation, utilities or critical national infrastructure environments.
  • Experience with physical and electronic security systems including Access Control, CCTV and Intruder Detection Systems.
  • Strong understanding of engineering assurance, design management and systems integration.
  • Experience reviewing contractor deliverables and technical submissions.
  • Experience managing technical interfaces across multidisciplinary projects.
  • Knowledge of engineering change control and risk management processes.
  • Understanding of IP‑based security systems and communications networks.
  • Experience supporting projects through design and delivery phases.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Qualified Engineer.

Desirable Experience

  • Critical National Infrastructure (CNI).
  • Rail, Aviation, Defence, Nuclear or Utilities sectors.
  • Video Management Systems (VMS) and PSIM platforms.
  • Experience working within major programmes or complex operational environments.
  • Knowledge of relevant British Standards and security industry specifications.
