HS2, Britain's new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Location

Based in Coventry - the South Region comprises Sublots 2B, 2A and 1A Long Itchington Wood. It stretches for approximately 39.2km from Finham Brook to Southam through a mixture of rural and suburban landscapes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage and coordinate the delivery of MEP works within an assigned section of the project.
  • Provide engineering support to construction teams, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Review drawings, specifications, technical submissions and construction methodologies.
  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved designs, standards and project requirements.
  • Coordinate interfaces between MEP, civil, structural, architectural and rail systems teams.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues arising during construction and installation activities.
  • Monitor site progress and support programme delivery objectives.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with BBV, HS2 and statutory health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
  • Implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and quality control procedures.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits and quality assurance checks.
  • Support testing, commissioning and handover activities.
  • Ensure all engineering records and documentation are maintained accurately.

Planning & Coordination

  • Assist in short-term and long-term planning of MEP activities.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and specialist suppliers to ensure efficient delivery.
  • Participate in daily briefings, coordination meetings and programme reviews.
  • Monitor material requirements and installation readiness.
  • Support construction sequencing and logistics planning.

Reporting & Stakeholder Management

  • Prepare engineering reports, progress updates and technical documentation.
  • Liaise with designers, construction managers, project controls teams and client representatives.
  • Raise and manage technical queries, NCRs and design change requests.
  • Support risk management and issue resolution activities.
  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience working as a Section Engineer, Site Engineer or MEP Engineer on construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health systems and installation practices.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating site activities.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, specifications and design documentation.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and inspection processes.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • CSCS card and relevant site-based construction qualifications.
