Balfour Beatty VINCI is working with a range of organisations to design and build 90km West Midlands stretch of HS2 - Britain’s new high speed railway. Our work is essential to enable HS2 trains to travel between London and Birmingham as well as continue their journey up to Manchester. It’s an incredibly exciting time to join us - we’re at peak construction with work really ramping up on a broad range of assets including bridges, tunnels and viaducts. Plus you’d join 9,000 people across 72 nationalities working on this exciting section of HS2 across the region.
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Deputy Financial Controller (7 Month FTC)within the Finance Function. This role will be based on site in Water Orton. The project’s most complex network of structures in the West Midlands, this sublot includes the Delta Junction – a triangular section of the high-speed railway made up of nine precast segmental viaducts, embankments, and other bridging structures, with around 10km of track crossing a network of motorways, roads and rivers..
Role Responsibilities
- Cost & Financial Management and Reporting
- Prepare monthly cost build reports. o Support the production and review of Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs). Key variance analysis of actual v budget v forecast.
- Upload, reconcile and maintain project data in Prism.
- Cashflow Management - Manage subcontractor cashflow forecasting and reporting.
- Prepare and maintain the main sublot cashflow, ensuring alignment with project delivery plans.
- Prepare and process journals, ensuring correct allocations, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations, and Core recharges
- Manage suspense accounts and resolve outstanding balances.
- Oversee coding for internal plant and labour and other sublot-related costs
- Balance Sheet Management
- Support the preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations.
- Monitor accruals and prepayments. Review aged accruals and ensure accuracy of balance sheet entries and other key accounts to maintain accuracy.
Experienced required
- The individual will have a strong academic background and be a part qualified or qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with 5 – 10 years PQE.
- Previous experience in construction related accounting, infrastructure, or project-based industries preferred (preferred but not essential)
- Strong knowledge of financial controls, reconciliations, and reporting processes
- Willingness to embrace and drive best practice.
- Experience of Oracle R12 (preferred but not essential)
- Good attention to detail, a disciplined and organised approach to work and the ability to handle and work with complex data
- MS Office packages including Excel
- Able to work and thrive in a busy construction site led environment
- Good communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with partners and delivery team members under time pressure
- The role may require some travel but will be predominantly based in Site offices.

About Balfour Beatty VINCI
Balfour Beatty VINCI is a long-established joint venture between two powerhouses for the delivery of critical infrastructure across rail, transport and other iconic projects in the UK and beyond. We started working together over 30 years ago to deliver the Channel Tunnel, as members of the TransManche Link consortium. In the Midlands, it is Balfour Beatty VINCI’s role to design and build the route, ready for tracks and signalling to be installed. Our work with HS2 Balfour Beatty VINCI have been awarded a 90km section of the HS2 project from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and then on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.
Overall, we will be building the following across all our sites:
• 9.3km of viaducts
• 2 twin bore tunnels and 2 cut and cover tunnels
• 28 underbridges and 11 underpasses
