HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire. Now is a great time to join us and be part of a diverse team of nearly 9,000 people from over 80 nationalities working together to deliver major assets including bridges, tunnels and viaducts. Whether onsite or office based all colleagues have a key part to play in delivering this critical transport infrastructure project.

Current Opportunity: Summer Placement - Civil Engineering

Locations Available: Birmingham, Coventry & Water Orton

Role Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out basic engineering controls as directed.
  • Carrying out checks on survey equipment.
  • Providing site operatives with information from drawings, schedules and the specification.
  • Completing quality checks.
  • Contributing to issuing of permits.
  • Occasionally giving briefings.
  • Attending safety inspections with senior management.
  • Identifying hazards and raising Unsafe Condition Notices.

Having a friendly, flexible approach to your working day and a willingness to learn will be essential for this role. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Enthusiastic and motivated individuals currently studying a Civil Engineering / Construction Management degree in their 1st or 2nd Year of their degree programme and available for 8 weeks from 20 July 2026. Prioritisation will be given to candidates studying at a Midlands-based University or who are permanent residents within the area.
