HS2, Britain's new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2's construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire. Location: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).
Responsibilities
- Coordinates the preparation of project budgets review (EACs)
- Participates in the monthly cost report issuance with the preparation of the Cost Value Reconciliation Report (CVR)
- Conducts analysis between earned value and planned value
- Conducts analysis on CVR variances: Self-Delivery Analysis (outputs, manhours, rates, quantities, machine efficiencies) and Subcontracted works (coordinates with QS adequate analysis of the main changes (quantities, rates, CEs))
- Prepares end of site trend/Rolling Forecast
- Prepare and present the monthly cost report (Performance, KPI, variance analysis, resources utilisation...)
- Maintains monitoring systems for all cost indicators, targets and standards Management & Performances requested
- Prepares Ad hoc analysis of costs, scenarios, efficiencies, if & when requested
- Alerts management on budget variations and proposes improvement axis & action plans to prevent recurring variations
- Prepare reliable and up to date spend forecast based on progress, productivity, and risk assessments
- Suggests ways to reduce costs, enhances revenues and improve profits
- Improves businesses efficiency where money is concerned
- Makes best practices and indicators recommendations to management
- Alert management for all irregularities detected
- Supervise and mentor a team of cost controllers (Jnr and mid-experience)
Qualifications
- Relevant experience gained within a contracting/projects environment, ideally as a Project Cost Accountant or Project Cost Controller.
- Excellent knowledge of cost accounting, budgeting and forecasting.
- Advanced Excel and analytical skills.
- Experience of both building and leading high performing teams.
- Strong communication skills and an ability to command respect at all levels of the organisation.
- Driving license.
