Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2's construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: Instrumentation and Monitoring Surveyor/Data Engineer

Location

Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S.

More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region.

This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel.

It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

  • Provide expertise in the design, installation, and establishment of control and monitoring survey network.
  • Ensure instrument calibration in accordance with project specifications and manufacturer requirements.
  • Ensure baseline data readings are taken prior to construction, and in accordance with third party requirements when necessary.
  • Configure instruments and trigger limits in the Database
  • Ensure all data is correctly entered into the I&M databases, and validate the electronic processing of data into information, including the comparison of real-time data with manual back-up surveys.
  • Critically analyse monitoring data from operational I&M Systems; identify and assess trends and anomalies; produce and present engineering assessments.
  • Providing in-time information, including copies of all processed monitoring data to the I&M Manager/ Coordinator and reporting against the agreed trigger levels.
  • If necessary, provide assistance in communicating with the on-site delivery team.
  • Assist in the development of Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and any other documents required to complete tasks.
  • Assist the I&M Coordinator in maintaining and managing databases that store the collected sensor and instrumentation data, including ensuring data integrity and optimizing database performance.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a surveying/engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant previous experience, including the establishment and maintenance of survey control networks, precise levelling, and 3D survey networks on major construction projects of a similar nature.
  • Experience and proficiency in processing and ensuring the quality of gathered data.
  • Proficiency in data assessment and analytics from civil engineering Instrumentation and Monitoring systems.
  • Experience in managing relationships with various project stakeholders at all levels and with the public.
  • Excellent communication skills.
