Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Health and Safety Compliance Auditor

Location: Based at Fort Dunlop - this location sits on the eastern edge of Birmingham, adjacent to the M6 motorway, providing excellent transport links into the city and across the region.

Fort Dunlop serves as a key hub within IPT Area North, supporting operations that span multiple sublots and regional activities.

Its strategic position makes it an important point for coordination and access, with proximity to major infrastructure routes ensuring connectivity to both the Central Region and wider project areas.

  • Role Responsibilities
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, ISO standards, and internal SHE policies, including regular review, updating, auditing, and communication of procedures, documentation, and statutory training requirements.
  • Lead incident management and continual improvement, including investigations, trend analysis, audits, non-conformities, Hi Pos, and ensuring all corrective and preventative actions are implemented, tracked, and closed out on time.
  • Maintain robust Health & Safety governance and assurance, delivering a structured programme of inspections, audits, emergency drills, assessments, and accurate record-keeping across BBV and subcontractors.
  • Own Health & Safety data, reporting, and analytics, ensuring accurate collation of performance data, dashboards, and insights on the Performance Hub to support informed decision‑making.
  • Embed a strong safety culture through engagement and training, coordinating inductions, ongoing H&S training, Health & Safety Committee meetings, legislative updates, and collaboration with managers, staff, and the Compliance Manager.
  • Proven experience and professional qualifications, with a minimum of three years’ recent experience in a similar role, NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or working towards), ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification, and Data Protection knowledge; NEBOSH Diploma desirable.
  • Strong Health & Safety technical capability, including the ability to gather, analyse, and report on key H&S data and performance statistics to support compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Highly professional and confidential approach, demonstrating integrity, discretion, and a proactive attitude to delivering results.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels through clear verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated and collaborative working style, able to work independently using strong IT skills (Microsoft Office) while also cooperating with others to implement process improvements.
