Job Purpose

As Project Manager for Network Rail Integration in the Rail Development Directorate, you will be responsible for leading integration with Network Rail (and/or GBR in future) to provide functional leadership, assurance and development/implementation of an appropriate collaborative operating model.

About the Role

  • Technical Specialist providing advice and solutions relating to NR integration.
  • Primary Point of Contact for HS2 or RDD teams needing to contact NR for integration north of Handsacre, and for NR to contact RDD/HS2. Acting as a conduit to link subject matter experts in NR/RDD.
  • Responsible for ensuring Rail Development Directorate schemes are integrated with the Conventional Railway Network and that Network Rail have no substantive objections to the development work.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a delivery mechanism suitable for the shared/competing outputs and governance of RDD and NR at the appropriate stage in the project lifecycle.
  • Accountable for the historic but active Phase 2b Protective Provisions Agreement and U&As with Network Rail.
  • Accountable for the development of Joint Management Plans, Management Frameworks and Strategies describing collaborative ways of working with Network Rail, including the implementation of a collaborative operating model.
  • Arrange surveys on NR property as required.
  • Establish, monitor and manage contracts with NR, identify emergent or systemic problems, and lead resolution.
  • Proactively manage NR integration risks and support mitigation of programme-level risks.
  • Support a collaborative culture that enables high performance by encouraging innovation and knowledge sharing between RDD, NR, DfT, supply chain and other Integrated Project Teams.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work and support organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

  • Understanding of project schedule management, dependencies and risk assessment.
  • Knowledge of contract management.
  • Knowledge of governance and assurance, specifically NR and HS2 processes.

Type of Experience

  • Experience of the project lifecycle including early stage concept design, planning, procuring, developing, and implementing similar project activities in a railway environment.
  • Experience of working in cross-organisational teams, navigating competing and conflicting processes and governance, and establishing joint working principles that deliver efficient, value-added outputs.
  • Experience of leading people and working across functions and disciplines to deliver objectives.
  • Demonstratable experience of being an innovative problem solver willing to challenge standard practice and deliver solutions that benefit the whole industry and provide value for money for the taxpayer.
  • Qualification in project management, or equivalent experience.
