The predicted salary is between 54878 - 64562 £ per year.

Base salary: £54878 pa to £64562 pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer a flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top of the base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits.

As the Legal Counsel, you will deliver a full range of legal advice to HS2 and all its business Directorates, including key internal stakeholders, to optimise contractual outcomes for HS2 in relation to various subjects (including supply chain, utilities, local authorities, etc.) and support HS2's compliance with legislation and regulations.

About the role:

  • Provide high-quality legal advice including drafting documents and advising HS2 staff at all levels on all aspects of commercial/contracts law.
  • Main lawyer and point of contact for legal advice on General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Run weekly legal surgeries for contract management and Corporate Procurement.
  • Point legal contact for all Phase 2a procurements.
  • Prepare and deliver targeted training to internal staff on legal issues.
  • Draft template precedents for the legal team.
  • Assist the legal function with legal research and provide updates affecting the business.
  • Advise on resolution of contractual claims and disputes.
  • Manage the provision of external legal support when required.
  • Contribute to the preparation and drafting of reports and briefings for senior management.
  • Liaise and provide advice to members of the senior leadership team on legal matters.
  • Supervise trainees/junior lawyers and prioritise workload.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work.

  • Demonstrable specialism in contract law and/or procurement law.
  • Commercial contracts/construction contracts knowledge.

Type of experience:

  • Experience of managing the provision of external legal advice.
  • Experience of public sector procurement processes.
  • Commercial legal experience of UK-based construction or infrastructure projects.
