Salary and Benefits – Base salary: £61,622pa to c.£83,191pa depending on skills and experience. Additional benefits include a flexible benefits fund of 20% on top of the base salary, fully pensionable, and a range of competitive benefits available on the company website.

About The Role

  • Lead the risk‑based engineering technical assurance of Rail System Interfaces within the IPT, supporting HS2 assurance requirements, engineering review, checking, and submission of assurance evidence for technical stage gates.
  • Assure compliance of IPT design and construction of Rail System interfaces with technical, sponsor, standards, specifications, and procedures through planned Technical Assurance Reviews and spot‑checks of Contractor deliverables.
  • Manage and communicate engineering issues or change affecting Rail Systems, including issuing Technical Authority Communications (TACs) for approval via TauP/Change Panels.
  • Provide contractual responses to IPT technical queries concerning Rail Systems technical interfaces.
  • Maintain interface registers and management tools to enable effective technical interface management of Rail Systems with IPTs and neighbouring contracts.
  • Provide guidance on design solutions for the asset, promoting best practice, innovative engineering techniques, technologies, and processes, driving consistency and identifying efficiencies within the IPT.
  • Discharge the duties of Principal Designer Representative as directed by the Engineering Director, Route Wide, or IPT Head of Engineering and Environment.
  • Represent the Director of Engineering in matters relating to CDM Principal Designer, NEC3 Supervisor or other defined technical duties.
  • Support the Engineering Director and/or Head of Engineering and Environment with internal and external reporting, risk identification, and mitigation of engineering matters.
  • Work with Heads of Commercial and Project Clients to assess impact of trends, progress, and change on cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Collaborate with other technical specialists, engineers, and environmentalists to develop cost‑balanced mitigation strategies and solutions, contributing to successful system integration.
  • Assure technical co‑ordination and integration of supply contracts with neighbouring contracts, station contracts, railway systems contracts, and others.
  • Act as the discipline engineer for technical areas where recognised technical competence and delegated authority have been granted.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in all work, supporting and complying with organisational initiatives, policies, and procedures on EDI.

Knowledge

  • Applicable construction regulations including CDM requirements.
  • Understanding of the regulatory and legislative framework.
  • Railway Systems Engineering design and construction challenges within complex delivery programmes.
  • Commercial knowledge including cost delivery, schedule targets, and integrated solutions.
  • Chartered Engineer status or membership of an appropriate professional institution, or working towards chartered status.

Experience

  • Experience managing multi‑disciplinary engineering and safety standards on complex projects or programmes.
  • Experience managing competing project and engineering demands with cost and schedule implications.
