Job Description
As a Supervisor Senior Project Engineer EK at HS2, you will be responsible for executing legal and contractual technical duties on project engineering issues within the Integrated Project Team (IPT), leading risk-based assurance of asset design and construction, assuring that it is in accordance with HS2’s technical requirements, standards and policies, in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
Responsibilities
- Lead the risk-based engineering technical assurance within the IPT, per HS2 assurance requirements, through engineering review, checking and submission of assurance evidence for technical stage gates
- Assure that the design and construction of assets comply with technical and sponsor requirements and applicable standards, specifications and procedures by supporting planned Technical Assurance Reviews and on-site “spot-checks” of Contractor deliverables
- Discharge the duties of NEC3 Supervisor and Principal Designer (CDM Regulations 2015) Representative as directed by Head of Engineering and Environment
- Support Head of Engineering and Environment with internal and external reporting and risk identification and mitigation of engineering matters
- Represent the Head of Engineering and Environment in matters related to CDM Principal Designer, NEC3 Supervisor or other technical duties as requested
- Manage and communicate HS2 Engineering requirements to the IPT contractor
- Provide guidance on design solutions for the asset, promoting best practice and innovative engineering techniques and processes, driving consistency and identifying opportunities for efficiencies within the IPT
- Work with Heads of Commercial and Project Clients to determine impact of trends, progress and change on cost and schedule
- Collaborate with technical specialists, engineers and environmentalists to identify and develop mitigation strategies and ensure system integration between station, railway systems and other delivery contracts
- Assure technical coordination and integration of supply contracts with other neighbouring contracts, station contracts and railway systems contracts
- Act as the discipline engineer in areas of recognised technical competence
- Promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work and support organisational EDI initiatives
Skills and Qualifications
- Problem solving: ability to identify complex problems, review information, and develop and evaluate options with multiple workstreams and stakeholder demands
- Decision making: ability to gather and synthesize information, evaluate options and apply sound judgment with quantitative reasoning
- Technical Leadership: provide specialist technical support and leadership, knowing when to seek guidance from Subject Matter Expert
- Technical Leadership: apply discipline-specific analysis, problem solving and design techniques with guidance as needed
- Technical Communication: ability to convey discipline-specific technical ideas to colleagues with practical examples
- Technical Leadership: manage data creation, transformation and visualization and understand data security implications
- Review capability: able to review drawings, specifications, ITPs and conduct on-site surveillance
Knowledge
- Applicable UK construction regulations including CDM requirements
- Understanding of Regulatory/Legislative Framework relevant to HS2
- Commercial awareness including understanding of cost delivery, schedule targets and integrated solutions
- Chartered Engineer or membership of a professional institution or equivalent experience
- NEC3 ECC Supervisor Accreditation
- Understanding of construction quality management systems and assurance processes, including change and non-conformance management
- Knowledge of CDM2015 (UK Construction)
Experience
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering and safety standards on large, complex major projects/infrastructure delivery
- Experience in NEC Supervisor role, Clerk of Works or Resident Engineer on a large civil engineering project
- Experience managing competing project and engineering demands with cost and schedule implications
