Job Purpose
This role is responsible for designing and leading the implementation of data flows to connect operational systems, data for analytics and business intelligence (BI) systems, ensuring the effective use of valuable information throughout HS2.
About The Role
- Overall accountability for the life‑cycle of specific data engineering projects, including identifying business needs, data gathering, specification, tool selection, analysis, deliverables and presentations.
- Engagement with Product Owners, Information Asset Owners, IT and business colleagues to elicit underlying causes of business problems and inefficiencies, supporting design objectives with insights.
- Inspiration of best practice for data products and services within the team and across HS2.
- Collaboration with other team members and the Senior Data Analytics Manager to identify, plan, develop and deliver data services.
- Accountability for designing, developing and deploying information and data management process‑flow systems through to implementation.
- Keeping up‑to‑date with progress in Data Engineering and emerging technologies across Government.
- Development of reusable Data Engineering models.
- Promotion and embedding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work, and compliance with organisational initiatives, policies and procedures.
Skills
- Data development process – ability to design, develop and test complex or large‑scale data products and articulate team delivery.
- Data integration design – selecting and implementing appropriate technologies to deliver resilient, scalable, future‑proofed data solutions.
- Problem resolution (data) – identifying and responding to problems in databases, data processes, products and services.
- Programming and building – using standards and tools to design, code, test, correct and document programs and scripts from agreed specifications and iterations.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of a range of cloud‑based tools and technologies and of the role of data integration and process flow.
- Knowledge of innovative data tools and how these can be applied.

- Experience developing fit‑for‑purpose, resilient, scalable and future‑proofed data services to meet user needs.
- Experience applying Data Engineering techniques.
