As Senior Internal Communications and Engagement Manager, you will deliver internal communications and engagement strategy aligned to strategic priorities and our employee value proposition, helping employees understand how they contribute to our purpose and ensuring they feel informed, valued and engaged.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Head of Internal and Supply Chain Communications to develop and deliver an internal communication and engagement strategy.
  • Support the delivery of internal communications to inform and engage employees on business priorities and key milestones.
  • Support change and transformation communication activity across the business.
  • Build relationships across the organisation to gain buy-in, support and sign‑off for internal communication activities, engagement activity and campaigns from the relevant executive or senior leadership sponsor.
  • Work with stakeholders to understand their goals and deliver appropriate strategies and plans that ensure the right message reaches the right audience at the right time, evaluating deliverables and performance to ensure a constant cycle of learning and improvement.
  • Produce and publish internal communications content across channels, ensuring accessibility from an EDI perspective, consistency and alignment to strategic priorities and corporate KPIs.
  • Promote HS2’s Employee Value Proposition to drive staff engagement across the supply chain.
  • Work collaboratively with teams in the External Affairs Directorate to deliver integrated campaigns targeting the 30,000‑person workforce through face‑to‑face events and digital platforms.
  • Manage delivery of employee engagement and wellbeing surveys and associated communications throughout the process.
  • Develop and implement internal response as part of company crisis communications as required.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work, supporting and complying with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

  • Develop and deliver engaging internal communications campaigns aligned with strategic objectives across multiple channels.
  • Produce and present information to a variety of stakeholders and engage/respond to queries and requests collaboratively.
  • Plan, execute and complete projects to agreed deadlines and quality standards.
  • Influence and negotiate with senior internal stakeholders.
  • Engage and communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Understand and promote complex and sensitive issues in a persuasive manner to different audience groups.
  • Manage online channels including intranets, e‑newsletters; possess video capture and editing skills.
  • Events management skills, including logistics, planning, technical requirements and delivery.
  • Independently manage and deliver individual and functional goals.
  • Work in an evolving organisation.
  • Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of best practice internal communications and its role in enhancing business performance.
  • Knowledge of emerging internal communications tools, techniques and channels, and evaluation practices.
  • Knowledge of best practice employee engagement approaches, including survey processes and change management practices.
  • Project management tools and applications within corporate communications.
  • Knowledge of public affairs, media relations, corporate communications, community engagement, social media and campaigns.

Experience

  • Senior management experience developing and delivering evidence‑based internal communications and engagement strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Experience working on large‑scale transformation programmes and using change impact analysis.
  • Experience delivering engagement campaigns.
  • Providing counsel on internal corporate communications and engagement to executives and senior leaders across large, complex, fast‑paced matrix organisations.
  • Development, delivery and measurement of internal communications resources and planning, defining the processes and structures required for success.
  • Experience delivering high‑quality engagement communications to agreed deadlines.
  • Experience designing and writing content for a range of internal communications channels.
