The predicted salary is between 84300 - 112987 £ per year.
Base salary: £84,300pa to c.£112,987pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer a flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top of the base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits.

The Head of Commercial is responsible for leading commercial activities within the Delivery teams. The role provides leadership to all HS2 commercial staff engaged in the management of the major infrastructure contracts required to deliver the HS2 vision. The role is also responsible for providing commercial input to procurement of these contracts and for co-ordinating and aligning commercial activities with other senior functional and delivery leaders within the Integrated Project Team (IPT), including supply chain.
About The Role- To be responsible for providing the appropriate commercial input to the development procurement and commercial strategies and package procurement plans for the major infrastructure contracts that are to be awarded to ensure affordability and value for money.
- To support the Procurement team in the development and delivery of tender and contract documentation including terms and conditions and associated commercial mechanisms, works and site information consistent with strategies and procurement plans.
- To support the development and execution of tender evaluation models and plans.
- To provide appropriate support in the evaluation, moderation and negotiation of tenders and to support the delivery of Contract award.
- To support the delivery of HS2 governance.
- To develop a contract management plan.
- To manage the major HS2 infrastructure contracts to maintain effective commercial control including assessment of variations and compensation events, contract payments, performance incentives, and final cost estimate updates.
- To support monthly MBR and contract performance reviews and other ad hoc reviews.
- To settle supply chain disputes.
- To provide day-to-day ad hoc contract and commercial advice to the client team.
- To lead the identification of opportunities for project savings and develop proposals/business cases for approval.
- To create a collaborative culture within the Integrated Project Teams (IPT) that encourages innovation, enhances functional capability, consistency of performance, maximises the benefits of knowledge sharing and embeds industry best practice across the organisation.
- To lead and review estimates (at all stages).
- To provide second corporate governance approval of change and risk draw down in accordance with corporate governance requirements.
- To lead commercial resources, agreeing objectives, managing performance and development to ensure staff have the necessary skills and support to deliver in their roles.
- To provide domain knowledge in the development and maintenance of efficient and effective contract and commercial management policies, processes and procedures.

Skills- Ability to lead and manage portfolios of high value and delivery critical contracts to deliver major complex infrastructure or similar projects and programmes.

- Ability to negotiate with both internal and external parties, to settle disputes whilst maintaining business-critical commercial relationships.
- The ability to manage diverse internal and external stakeholder parties to achieve successful project outcomes.
- The ability to develop and improve commercial policies, processes and procedures.
- The ability to lead, recruit and develop commercial teams in a complex organisation.
- Experience of leading commercial management teams in major complex infrastructure projects and programmes to deliver value for money for the Client/Employer.
- Experience of working with or for publicly funded bodies and/or a major publicly funded programme.
