Location: Birmingham

Salary: Base salary: £61,622pa to c.£77,028pa depending on skills and experience. Flexible benefits fund of 20% on top of base salary, fully pensionable.

About the Role: As a Disputes Manager you will have accountability for devising strategies for tribunal cases, identifying settlement and referral options, coordinating input from expert parties and managing a tracker of all existing and potential tribunal cases across compulsory purchase and material detriment areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work.
  • Accountable for devising strategies for tribunal cases, coordinating input from all relevant expert parties and managing a tracker of all existing tribunal cases and potential cases across blight determination, blight compensation, compulsory purchase order compensation and material detriment.
  • Ascertain DfT delegations with regards to sealed offers and material detriment approvals, deliver sealed offers and calor bank offers with case officers where appropriate.
  • Work with strategic suppliers to undertake risk/cost matrix of their cases to identify hotspots for proactive management.
  • Work with legal to establish home team of counsel and instruction of experts across disciplines.
  • Lead design of strategy for individual tribunal cases, acknowledging repercussive nature for HS2 Ltd and compulsory purchase practice.
  • Implement Improvements in ADR policy and provide advice to all team members.
  • Share expertise and knowledge on strategies and compulsory purchase practice with case managers, acquisitions leads and senior property acquisition managers.
  • Contribute to the monthly reporting pack and report costs and opportunities to Head of Acquisitions and Land and Property Director quarterly.
  • Adhere to HS2 Ltd’s health and safety policies.

Skills:

  • Relationship management and influencing decisions with stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication – drafting concise, persuading papers, strategies and presentations while navigating politics.
  • Analytical judgment using data and facts to support suppliers, stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Advisory skills – delivering independent expert evidence.

Knowledge:

  • Chartered Surveyor or equivalent.
  • Understanding of the Land and Property industry, policy and legislation.
  • Knowledge of compulsory purchase and related government compensation schemes.
  • Understanding of public sector constraints and central government relationships with HS2 Ltd.

Type of Experience:

  • Experience working in Land and Property sector in a complex infrastructure environment.
  • Experience working with suppliers to develop effective working relationships and manage performance.
  • Experience carrying out briefings to Select Committees.
  • Experience as part of a counsel team securing powers for large infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in property environment with substantial land assembly at senior level.
  • Experience providing expert evidence in tribunal and select committee inquiries.
