Our client is a trusted and dynamic player in the global flavourings, extracts, and essences market. With extensive experience across the food, beverage and nutritional categories and a global footprint, this leader develops high quality taste solutions which help its customers to stand out in a competitive landscape. They are seeking an Interim Head of Regulatory Affairs to ensure legal compliance, products are safe for consumption, and systems are in place that customers get consistent quality.
Responsibilities
- Lead the team which is responsible for Regulatory Affairs, Food Safety, and Quality Assurance, thus contributing towards the business being regarded as clients first choice taste solutions supplier.
- Oversee all regulatory and food safety related activities across Europe.
- Ensure all raw materials, processing aids, and finished products are permitted in each of the countries where products will be processed.
- Prepare and submit relevant documents for approvals (e.g. the business format and direct customer format) where required.
- Advise marketing and customers on permissible claims and mandatory labelling information (allergens, additives) for their product in isolation.
- Track global regulatory updates and communicate changes to the business that could affect their products.
- Provide compliance statements, safety data sheets, and certificates.
- Maintain all specifications for all products.
- Develop and maintain Food Safety Management Systems like HACCP.
- Identify microbiological, chemical, allergen and physical risks in production.
- Implement measures to avoid fraud.
- Build food safety awareness in manufacturing teams via training programs.
- Lead recall/withdrawal processes and crisis management in case of contamination.
- Define, implement and audit against GFSI standards; liaise with the relevant inspection bodies.
- Approve, monitor and audit raw material suppliers, co-packers and logistics partners.
- Conduct internal quality audits and manage corrective and preventive actions.
- Investigate root causes and implement corrective measures on customer complaints.
- Maintain SOPs, training records, and provide certificates of conformity or compliance to customers.
- Promote a proactive approach to Quality Assurance in all aspects of its business.
- Advise managers in the technical aspects involved in all existing or new processes to ensure adherence to the company\’s quality policy.
- Ensure an adequate level of quality assurance in the operation of the Quality Control Function at site ensuring that procedures and test methods are properly documented, validated and applied.
- Monitor the timely resolution of all customer complaints and proposing or taking corrective and/or preventative action against any similar occurrence.
Skills/Qualifications
- Degree in Food Science / Science, or related subject or equivalent qualifications
- Experience of working in a regulatory role in the flavour industry and food safety / quality assurance in F&B
- Keen attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective communicator with all stakeholders, both internally and externally
- Ability to prioritise effectively, processing large amounts of data within short timescales
