HR Wallingford’s Equipment and Technology Division is a small to medium, high‑expertise team that develops and supplies a comprehensive range of physical modelling technology for hydraulic, marine and coastal research facilities. With more than 70 years’ experience on our own modelling projects, our designs have been rigorously proven in use. For the past 30 years we have been sharing our technology and expertise with other model users, and are proud to have supplied equipment to more than 300 institutions worldwide. Examples of the equipment we deliver include wave generation systems, absorbing beaches, tidal generators, towing carriages, instrument positioning systems, force measuring equipment, dynamometers, and remote platforms.

We are recruiting for two Production Technicians, based at our Wallingford, Oxfordshire offices, with a solid foundation in mechanical or electrical engineering, ideally but not essential, supported by an apprenticeship or further education qualification (such as HNC, HND or BTEC), alongside at least two years’ experience in a small to medium‑scale production or assembly environment working with mechanical or electro‑mechanical systems.

You will have an understanding of the importance of documentation, manufacturing processes, and quality protocols, with experience in areas such as electric motors, rotating machinery, drive or actuation systems, bearings, and seals being an advantage. Experience in a customer‑facing environment would also be welcomed.

You will be technically curious and enjoy working collaboratively with designers to explore ideas and develop practical solutions. You will be self‑motivated and proactive, able to take initiative while contributing effectively as part of a team. A hands‑on, detail‑oriented approach will be key, along with strong communication skills and the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, maintaining a high standard of professional pride in your work.

A salary from circa £29,000, depending on experience. We understand the importance of a healthy work‑life balance and offer both hybrid working and flexi‑time. We are also open to exploring other flexible working arrangements, including part‑time.
