Our client is a specialist law firm with a strong reputation across Court of Protection, Education, Wills & Probate, and Disputes work. The firm is growing, evolving, and entering an exciting new phase and we’re looking for an exceptional Practice Manager to help shape their future.
This is a newly created, business-critical role designed to take ownership of the operational running of the firm, freeing the Managing Director to focus on client work, business development, and strategic growth. The RoleAs the Practice Manager, you will:
- Own the day-to-day running of the firm
- Lead all operational functions including administration, HR support, IT, facilities, and compliance.
- Be the go-to problem solver for internal queries and team coordination.
- Oversee smooth onboarding and offboarding processes.
- Drive financial efficiency
- Oversee billing, time recording and credit control to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Work closely with our Finance Manager to monitor budgets, cashflow, and department performance.
- Provide clear reporting and insights to support decision-making.
- Support and improve our people experience
- Work alongside our HR partners to support managers on people issues, performance, and culture.
- Help create consistency, accountability, and fairness across the firm.
- Coordinate internal communications and engagement activities.
- Lead on compliance and systems
- Act as operational lead for SRA compliance and risk management.
- Manage relationships with our IT and case management system providers.
- Drive system improvements, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the firm stays efficient and well-supported.
- Enable growth and strategic development
- Support the launch of new practice areas (including our expanding Education Law offer).
- Provide operational insight to help shape the next phase of the firm’s development.
- Create the foundation for a high-performing, well-structured, values-led law firm.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in legal operations, practice management, or professional services operations
- Confident managing people processes, data, compliance, and internal systems
- Highly organised, proactive, and able to juggle multiple demands without losing focus
- Commercially minded, with an understanding of how law firms run profitably
- A natural communicator who can build trust, influence, and encourage accountability
- Calm, pragmatic and solutions-focused — even when things get busy
- Values-driven, approachable and aligned with a collaborative firm culture
- Experience in a law firm is strongly preferred, but we welcome applicants from similar regulated or professional services environments.
£60,000 – £75,000 depending on experience
Hybrid working (St Albans / London / remote)
