We are seeking a professional, organised, and proactive individual who will oversee the Shipping and Export Control divisions.
Based at our Shipping Facility (Rotherwas), due to the continuing growth of the departments, an opportunity has arisen for a
Head of customs compliance and Shipping to work in close association with the Shipping manager and the Export Control manager, to ensure all HR Smith Group Products are shipped to the required standard and in a timely manner whilst providing leadership and direction to both managers.
- Primary duties and responsibilities
- Execute customs compliance strategy for the group.
- Ensures customs activities adhere to all UK customs regulations and internal policies, working to identify and mitigate specific risks with the group.
- Maintain management oversight of the shipping function and ensure shipments are dispatched accurately, securely and in accordance with customer, contractual, customs and regulatory requirements.
- Implement the customs compliance roadmap for the group, ensuring alignment with overarching objectives.
- Provide support for central customs audits and conduct internal checks to ensure compliance standards aremaintained.
- Deliver and facilitate customs training for relevant teams with the group.
- Lead compliance activities covering export control and export licences such as SIELs, OIELs, OGELs and other applicable licences.
- Ensure full compliance of all processes relating to Inward Processing Relief (IPR) and Outward Processing Relief (OPR).
- Requisite skills and capabilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing both the Shipping manger and Export Control division manager, setting clear objectives, priorities and standards whilst maintaining accountability for department performance.
As such a successful candidate should
- Be educated to a minimum of a degree level, or hold a professional qualification and at least 5 years of demonstrable experience in customs, licensing and auditing.
- Have a deep understanding, and knowledge of, UK customs and UK export control laws and regulations.
- Have previous experience in regulatory audits.
- Have strong interpersonal management skills to help advise and influence decision making, based on verifiable knowledge of customs and international trade.
- Have strong presentation skills so as to deliver training for relevant parties.
- Be literate with computers and a good all-round knowledge of Microsoft office.
