CNC Setter / Operator - Night Shift (Monday - Thursday 5pm-5am). The role can be a miller or a turner, offering stable long-term commitment. This is a state-of-the-art factory that supplies the aerospace, defence, motorsport, and other hi-tech sectors. This is a hands-on setter/operator position (not a programming role), working on Heidenhain-controlled CNC milling machines (can cross train on controls) to produce high-quality machined components to drawing specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and operate Heidenhain CNC milling machines on the night shift.
- Define machine datum's and prove out new jobs.
- Load programmes, set tooling and apply work/tool offsets accurately to meet required tolerances.
- Edit machine offsets as needed to maintain part quality.
- Carry out first-off and in-process inspection using calipers, micrometres and gauges.
- Verify dimensions against engineering drawings and maintain machining tolerances.
- Collaborate with inspectors to ensure all drawing and quality requirements are achieved.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, preventive checks and basic troubleshooting.
- Maintain accurate production and quality records; report any quality or equipment issues.
- Manage material identification and control.
- Work with team leaders to plan work efficiently and meet production schedules.
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience in subcontract (subcon) CNC machining.
- Proven experience setting and operating CNC milling machines, ideally with Heidenhain controls.
- Comfortable with 3-axis CNC milling as a minimum (experience above 3-axis is an advantage).
- Strong understanding of setting, tool offsets and workholding.
- Competent in basic inspection techniques and use of measuring equipment (callipers, micrometres, gauges).
- Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings and tolerances.
- Good timekeeping, reliability and the ability to work independently on nights.
Premium rate overtime usually available on Fridays. Other similar positions available with this client. This is a permanent job with a starting salary dependent on experience. You must have current UK right to work to be considered.
